I purchased at an auction a Camillus fixed blade knife that I need information about. It is a fixed blade that looks like the U.S.M.C knife but it is marked U.S.N. On one side of the blade it is marked "Camillus, N.Y." and on the other "U.S.N". The sheath is marked "U.S.N". What model do I have? Is it a real military issue or a civilian knife with military markings? Also about what time period was it produced? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

During WWII, Camillus made the 7" Fighting
Knife for the Marine Corps and the Navy. The
first knives made were blade stamped and featured a threaded tang and nut to secure the handle and butt cap. In 1943 a new design
was introduced that featured a horizontal pin
through the butt cap and most knives were stamped on the guard (either U.S.N. or U.S.M.C.)
Each knife also included a sheath/scabbard.
Most U.S.N. knives were packaged with the hard (plastic) B.M. Co. sheath, while most
U.S.M.C. knives came with a leather sheath.
Camillus still produces the 7" knife today.
If you can either post a picture in BladeForums or e-mail me a photo, I can give
you a positive identification.
I have the original WWII records for this knife. If you would like copies, without charge, just e-mail me your postal mailing address.

I appreciate the information and will try to get you a picture of it. It has a leather sheath not the hard plastic. If you could mail me the WWII reference information you have I would appreciate it. Mail to

Thanks again!
