I was looking at the votes for the 2007 BFC knife and noticed a few votes for a canittler. I searched for and found a picture of one. Will someone explain to this doofus what the difference is between a canittler and a canoe. Is it the shape of bolsters or something more? So much to learn, so much to learn.

Hmm, I'd always heard three blade canoes called gunboats. Are the blade configs different between a GB and a canittler? What about springs on the later, true whittler style?

I like my two blade canoes, though many I have not, enough that a canittler disturbs me a little. And that rhymes with whittle.... sorry, old movie started playing in my head. However, I am more partial to plain old canoes.

How far back does the canittler go as a pattern/name? I too am a bit uneddycated on this pattern.

Indeed, a Canittler is a 3 blade Canoe with a whittler blade configuration. A recent invention by a contemporary of Jim Parker, I have heard?? Maybe the Fightin'Rooster guy??
Someone know for sure??

So is this what your calling a Canittler??? A Wildcat Driller??

No, a Canittler has Canoe bolsters. I have one, but I can't find it! Arrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'll post a pic when I do, unless some kind soul beats me to it!
Please!?

Thanks guys, I knew you could answer my question. The only picture I looked at was in the closed position and on that one bolsters were at an angle so I could not figure out what the difference was. I like'um. I may have to change my vote for the BFC 2007 ;)

While CS doesn't currently make a canittler, they are going to be making one for my knife club this year. Here is a pic I was sent, I just wish we were getting something other than pearl for the handle.

To me, the blades on that one define a Canittler vs. a Gunboat. Yes, I realize the S&M above is probably marketed as a Canittler, but it doesn't have a coping blade, which (imo) makes the knife.
