Can't decide: Native III or Centofante?

Hello all,

Thought I would throw out my dilema for some feedback. I am really wanting a new knife. Something I can EDC without hardly knowing it is there, clip it in a pocket and forget about it but that can still get some work done when I need it. I was pretty well sold on the Native but came across the Centofante and am having second thoughts.

Thanks,

Jim

Considering the bolded criteria, the Centofante is your blade! By definition as a Spyderco, either would be reliable to "get some work done" when you need it.

I had both on the same day =)
I ended up with the Native though.
The Centofante is a very sharp knife indeed. However I chose teh Native III because I like to do heavier duty tasks with my EDC.

It's really up to you, the feel and look of the knife.
To summarise though, Centofante for slimmer / better slicing. Native for a sturdy edc.

I dont think you will be disappointed with either of these =)

Good info guys, thanks.

Inspira, just wondering about what heavy tasks you use the Native for that you might not with the Centofante?

both are very good knives. I had both, but I let Centofante go and it was a mistake.
Probably I will buy it again. Native is my EDC for 5 days a week and I love it.

How is the knife going to be used? Buy the blade that fits you the most. Then buy the other one when you get the funds.

They are two pretty different knives. I have both. The Centofante is more of a "gentleman's folder" design and the handle seems to be thicker. It was definitely more noticeable in the pocket. An incredible slicer (and my first Spyderco) but I wouldn't push the blade with the kind of abuse I would do with my Native.

I find my Calypso Jr (VG10) is the best compromise between the two knives mentioned above for me and, unlike most compromises, there is no drawback with its use. The Calypso Jr is just an awesome knife. Why I didn't buy one in ZDP189 when the were new and reasonably priced will forever be a mistake of mine.

I guess I just find the handle more confortable with the Caly - the same holds true with my Merlin. If you can't find a Caly, you might consider a Delica too.

Good luck!

Camping chores. also as a general utility knife around the house.

Based on your two choices, i would definitely take the Centofante 3. It's light and razor sharp. However, if you extended the options to include the regular Native, I would rather take that (I'm EDC'ing a PE Native right now). The Native is a lot thinner than the Native III and has CPM-S30V blade steel, which is rated a little better than the VG-10 on the III. (and you can get the regular Native at Walmart at a heck of a good price)
