Looks good!

I much prefer the canvas myself. I honestly wish they'd do away with the linen on the on the 4's and 6's.

Looks good CD! I'm also a huge fan of the canvas micarta and am slowly working towards doing the same thing. Thanks for the pics!

What's the difference between the two? It seems like one is darker (if those are comparison shots) but functionally is there any difference?

I'm afraid I'm not skilled in the various micarta arts.

Canvas micarta is made with fiberglass resin and layers of, well, canvas cloth and linen is made with layers of linen cloth :D

Canvas seems more grippy to me all around, especially when covered in gunk.

Here is a great link to thread on britichblades that shows a dude making his own:

And here is some good info on micarta posted by Jerry Busse:

Micarta was developed by Westinghouse. It has a higher tensile strength than steel and is impervious to changes in temperature. It will not swell, warp, or crack, even under adverse conditions, once it is on the knife. There are three types of Micarta and several grades of these three types. They all consist of layers of either paper, linen, or canvas.

The inventors of Formica (kitchen counter tops) had borrowed so heavily from Micarta technology that the name "Formica" is short for the term "Formerly Micarta". Think of that the next time you drop a skillet on the kitchen counter....

Hey dave, how would you clean the canvas micarta handles?

Same as any micarta and very easy: warm water and mild soap will bring them back to new condition even when covered in blood. Its quite remarkable how nicely they clean up

.

So, where did you get the ESEE micarta handle for your 6? from a 5? Cause, your 6 looks like it has the ESEE symbol on the handles.

As far as I know the only way to get canvas handles on a 6 is to swap with a 5 - they are interchangeable like the 3 and 4 are.

the only difference is the texture and the color is a little different. for me the texture is better when wet with blood or sweat my 6 is the knife i use to process most game.

i swapped scales on a 5 to my 6.

Awesome work. Now you need to have all the sheaths in Black so you can match. :p

It's 7:36 AM on Christmas morning. Have a good day. :D

Edit: I agree. I prefer the canvas micarta as well.

well today i'm on a kick wishing the 6 came with the option of the canvas scales and bowdrill divot, so i'll also resurrect this thread to put another bug in the ear of the owners/decision makers at esee.

don't make me buy a 6 and another 5! then again, maybe that's the point of not offering it as a standard option. i'm on to you jeff :D

Patience. We are working on a system that will allow the user to change out any handle they want and buy optional handles that fit EXACTLY.
