I don't think I've seen this one but one other time since it came out. I had forgotten what a classy look this carbon fiber can have to it although I'm sure this scan does not do that justice at all. I don't much care for these blades although I did have a Tasman for a while but this one looks pretty decent thanks to the carbon fiber scales.

Its here for a clip flip to tip up which I hope to pull off even though its got a stainless liner. I did this one time before with success but its always scary for me to thread hardened steel. I can only hope it will work out. I got it to work last time because fortunately the liners are thin. Then the owner wants it Waved if I can successfully flip the clip.

I figure worse case scenario if a tap breaks I'll take the handle off on that side, and clean it up underneath and then insert a stainless threaded insert on the underside of the Carbon Fiber for the clip. One way or the other I'll get her done!

Do the hardest first I always say. This CF Harpy had the clip flipped to tip up carry, a Wave mod done after that and traction grooves for thumb grip added after that as per the owner work order.

Thanks Theo..

if i mail this with my buck is there any way you could fill the empty screw holes?? like with a shortened screw or some thing??

str....was is a wave mod......i have heard it before but don't really know what it means....thanks for the info.....ryan

Go here to this link and watch the Demo. That says it all. The Wave is a feature to use a like, hook for lack of a better word and this hook catches the pocket as you extra a tip up carry knife with that feature built in or added on. http://www.emersonknives.com/Tact_index.html

Once at the link click on any Waved model there. The top middle one CQC14 will work fine. Then click watch demo in the blue hightlights once there.

Cold Steel is using one built into a thumb stud patented by Andrew Demko.

Ernie Emerson is using his patented one for his knives that is cut into the grind and shape of the blade blank when he makes them.

Spyderco licensed with Emerson to use it on some of their Delicas, Enduras, and Rescue knives and I have permission from both gentleman to do them to production folders not having it done yet.

Not everyone calls it a Wave. That is Emerson only. It tears up pockets on a lot of knives and I feel the Spydercos and some that I've done for others like Pacific Salt models and the HK14200 and 14205, BM420 Resistor all worked the best of any of them personally but this new HD7 Emerson is up there in ease of use with all of them and I really like it. Not hard on pockets, simple to use and effortless unlike most of the others in his line up that require a bit of concerted effort and self training to make work.

Sorry, I was pulled away by the wife before I could repost and just got back.

I saw your question though.

Just didn't get to it.

I can do that but not sure I have black screws. I might. I'll look. Sometimes I am surprised at what I find in my stash of goodies in one of the bins.

ok thanks alot. would it be easer if i just mailed you all my knives, then i send you money and you send me back my knives with a STR touch. lol

Thats fine. I am not too fussy about how it all works out so long as it just works.

Thanks

Scratch that. I was thinking of the Buck Strider when I said black. I think silver would look better on the Harpy and I probably have that. You may be able to screw the original screws down in the holes but it might cause them to stick out without the clip under it so they could be too long and affect the blade movement or washers too.

str.....thanks for the thorough explanation.....what knives can you do a wave mod. on......does it depend on how the knife is constructed.....i am confused at how you construct a knife to do that.....does your pants catch the thumbstud or is it similar to the assisted knives from kershaw.....i am familiar with those.......i guess a wave is for someone lazy like me.....it's like it's assisted but it goes one step further and you don't even have to open it......thanks str for expanding my pocket knife knowledge once agan!......ryan

Look in the sticky post for "What I do" at the top of the page and go to the last post I made with all the Spyderco modifications list I've done.

Also, you can click on my screen name and see modified Waved folders I've done for customers. Obviously not all but a fraction of them to show it.

Its simply done either by Emerson as such that he cuts out that shape of a hook of sorts in the original blade blank and then further shapes it or as Spyderco does much the same or in my case I grind it out using a belt grinder and a dremmel to finish it with round cylinders similar to ones used to sharpen chain saw blades.
