OK. Now that I have a "custom" Emerson, I'd like some advice from all you custom owners out there on how to care for 'em. I have Tuf Cloth (I just wish it didn't leave that crappy looking residue on the blade - makes it sticky), and White Lightning (now I have to take the knife apart, and get all the oil out before I use it). Mainly, I was thinking about general upkeep - how you guys get fingerprints off the bolsters (if you even bother), if I need to put anything on the micarta to seal it, that sort of thing. Thanks!

See,

I carry a CQC6 everyday. All I do is wipe the blade down with Tuff Cloth once a week. The Marine Tuff cloth leaves a sticky residue. The regular Tuff cloth doesn't. I only use Marine Tuff cloth in the summer when I'm by the water.( Salt air)

About once every two weeks I wipe the micarta down with rubbing alcohol to get the warm feeling micarta back. The cloth shows up more when clean.

I almost never lube the pivot. I find there is no need. Oil in that area collects lint & dust. I don't get finger prints on the bolsters. They're BB.

Well, that's pretty much it. Good luck.

See, I've got to agree with David on the periodic wipe-down. I use Birchwood-Casey "Sheath" on all of my carry firearms and knife blades, with NEVER a spot of rust. It comes in a aerosol spray, or in a squirt can that looks lke a lighter fluid can. I treat a piece of soft flannel (cut from old shirt) with a generous amnt. of Sheath, and store it in a mason jar....keeps it useful for MONTHS! It's great stuff, wipes finger oils right off, and leaves such a fine coating is nearly invisible. Makes fine marks in the BB titanium disappear as well, although this part of the knife does not need the corrosion protection that the blade does.

One thing to add, is that every so often you might want to carefully disassemble your custom and wipe the insides down. The grit and lint it will collect inside CAN'T be good, and you need to wipe down portions of the blade that are not accessable normally.

Interesting recipe for the Micarta David! I do not know what to expect from carry here, but I'll sure try the alcohol if you have had no problems with it.

Thatnks for the tips, guys! I'll have to get some Sheath, and do a comparision between that and Tuf-cloth. I really DO need to disassemble the knife to get at the insides. There's oil and lint and stuff like that in there that I don't like seeing...
