Would caribou horns "that were in velvet and then freeze dried" make good handles/scales? Thanx for the input.

Absolutely not! Just send those worthless things to Tenino and I will burn em for ya. I would be interested in enough for one knife

As long as they are hard they should be fine. You might consider having them stabilized that way you know for sure that they will last and hold up....

Thanx guys. I just never see any knives with caribou horn handles/scales and have no idea what these horns look like under the velvet. The wife got tired of looking at them in the house and they are gathering dust in the garage. They are quite large for my den. I did walk a few miles to get this dude and don't want them to go to waste.

just take a look at some classic scandinavian Puukko knives. Most of them have at least a small piece of caribou/reindeer antler in the handle, some are even made with complete caribou handle AND sheath.

Robert, I like the idea of a new house but if I did that, I wouldn't have any knife $. I think I will let some of the locals use them for handles. Sooner or later, my wife would throw them away. Apparently, they will make decent handles. Thanx for all the input.
