Carnivore Cub Question

I really like the idea of the Cub, it might have even replaced the BF Native as my "in town" carry, but it is too big to be legal. Washington, DC, has a 3" limit and the Cub is 3 1/4" long. Now, I am aware that the Native is listed at 3 1/8", but mine measures less than 3 1/32, so close that you could not call it on any kind of a ruler that I have seen used by guards and/or police. So, what was the basis for the 3 1/4" blade choice over a 3' blade choice? I seems to me that you have limited your market by doing so.

I am sorry to seem insistant, but I really would like an answer to this, if possible.

Hugh, do you live INSIDE the DC limits? Or just work there? Are you in an area that is THAT strict about a quarter inch?

I know that I've been a little disdainful in the past about the worry of illegality inside the DC limits. But, I'm just curious. I work in a federal facility, where, I suppose according to some things I've read here, makes anything over 3 inches illegal. Yet, I walk around freely with a 730 clip sticking out of my pocket. I use it with not problems whatsoever from anyone around me. Some have done a double take on it, but I do the double-take back at them, like, "WHAT?! You've never seen a knife before." Not exactly in those words, but the thought generally conveys. And I'm not the only one. A couple of the other guys carry either a 730 or a 710 (which I occasionally rotate in for my 730). So, I'm just curious. I'm not trying to be a sh**. This time...

It would be nice to get an answer from REKAT concerning your question. But, I've come to the conclusion that 3 inch is my minimum limit. I'll carry others that are shorter, but I will always have one that is at least 3 inches long on me. Not that I necessarily need it... it just feels better.

Sorry to spout off so long... kinda bored today.

There is not much of an answer to your question. The handle on the cub was shorted as much as possible and still look and feel like the carnivore and that’s the blade length that had the best ratio to the handle.

Thank you, Mr. Brothers, I am just sorry that it hasn't worked out for a 3" Carnie Cub, as I, for one, would have loved it.

Rockspyder, I live in Virginia which has no specific limit. But I work for a federal agency in DC, where I have been "counseled informally" by certain of my superiors that, while they do not object to my carrying a knife, I should keep it legal. I do feel that I am constrained to do so, under the circumstances, since my agency is in no way a paramilitary or military organization where largish knives could be justified. The Native is so close, when measured, that it attracts no attention, but my StarMate, my Carnivour, my Endura, and even my BM 720 Axis Pardue have elicited negative comment. I need to comment here that my agency is full to overflowing with lawyers who really do poke their noses into things other than securities law which is what they are paid to do. You should have seen them when I was at an office picnic over in Arlington, Virginia, with my Spydie Military and used it to open some packs of wiener rolls. You would have thought that I had pulled out an assault rifle in the truest definition. One woman lawyer nearly fainted, I swear to God. Good thing that I wasn't carrying my Sifu!

Nothing personal, Hugh... but that story pretty much confirms my suspicions that this nation would be better served if the District of Columbia were turned into a parking lot for Northern VA. Just one big slab of ass-phalt.

NOW I understand why I keep seeing this posts by you. I hate it for ya, friend. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I don't work with any lawyers, and I think I'm glad.
