Carnivour Cub

Hello all!

Does anyone out there have one of these new Carnivour Cub knives? If yes, I'd appreciate any feedback on them. The things I'm most concerned about are the feel in the hand and the weight. How does it compare to the Pioneers? Are the cubs as heavy as the Pioneers are? I'm torn between the Benchmade Ares and the Carnivour cub. I love my old Pioneer, but it's just too damn heavy to carry in my pocket ...
any help welcome!

Tim the Carnivore Cub feels a lot like the full sized Carnivore the handle was shortened on the ends leaving the center of the handle almost identical to its parent. Blade length is 3 ¼ and the handle is 4 ½ with an overall of 7 ¾. That puts the cub at just under ½ inch longer than the Pioneer the weight is about the same.

Tim,
I've got a Carnivore Cub and a BM Ares but no Pioneer. I don't have the Ares nearby but my recollection is that it is lighter than the Cub.

That said, I think that you might want to consider getting stronger trousers rather than a lighter knife

. Seriously, the heavier knives are suboptimal with dress trousers but great with jeans or Carharts. As for the knives, the Rekat just screams "industrial strength" and the handgrip fits my medium sized hands perfectly. One of the things that BM does to lighten many of their axis models is to skeltonize or drill out the liners. I appreaciate the mass of the Rekat but perhaps those that don't could explore drilling out the liners in a way that didn't compromise the strength too much. -Alan

When Bob Taylor handed me a Cub at the 2000 Blade Show, my first thought was that this knife would be too small for my hands. I quickly learned that not only was I wrong, but I was 100% dead wrong - the knife fits perfectly (and I've got big hands).

If I have a chance this weekend, I'll take some photo's and do a side-by-side comparison... but really, there's no need - the Cub is a great knife and is perfect for light daily use, or when you need a sub 4" knife that is still rock solid.
