Has anyone taken their Carni apart? I did this morning. The action was a little gritty, and I was starting to have some trouble doing a slide-bar opening, so I took it apart to lube it with some tuff-glide. The stop bar was also rattling, so I glued it in place.

To make a long story short, putting it back together was a pain in the ass. Getting the rolling lock, stop bar and pivot pin into their respective holes in the liners was extremely difficult.

The blade seems to have a little back and forth play now. It might have been like that before and I didn't notice. I hope it's nothing bad, I'd hate to have to take it apart again. Lubing it up certainly fixed the grittiness though.

Don't get me wrong, I really like this knife. It's definately my favority folder. It's just a pain in the butt to work on.

LOL-the first time is the worst. Take my word for it. And I'll wager that the blade play wasn't there before you took it apart. Here's my advice, and feel free to ignore it. Take it apart again, and try putting it back together in different order than last time. It may help to write down the steps you take to re-assemble it, as you will probably have to try it a few different times to get rid of the blade play. The Carny is a bit finicky about how it goes back together-do it wrong and you get the dreaded lateral blade play. Good luck!

The blade play is not lateral, (assuming you mean side-to side between the liners) it is back-to-front (same motion sa opening and closing the knife).

Since I glued the stop bar into place, there is not much choice as to the order it is put back together. The stop bar is glued into the same side as the rolling lock button.

Here's how I put it back together:

1. Lying on rolling lock side, rolling lock, stop bar and liner hex-screw bars sticking up.

2. Pivot pin inserted. Hex screw inserted through G-10 scale. Pivot pin fastened so equal amount will protrude from either side of blade.

3. First plastic washer, blade, and second plastic washer mounted on pivot pin.

4. This is the annoying part. First, I tried to put the clip-side liner on alone, with no luck. I was able to attach it abd the clip-side scale at the same time, but it was not easy. Getting the pivot pin, stop bar and rolling lock into their respective holes was extremely difficult.

Now, since the stop bar is glued in place on the rolling lock side, the only other way to put it together I can think of which would allow me to make sure that the pivot pin is centered, is o do it clip side down, have the pivot pin sticking up from the clip side, attach blade and put the rolling lock and stop bar into its holes on the clip side, while pivot pin goes into the hole in the rolling lock side.

Which way do you put yours back together?

As I said, this is a big pain in the ass.

BTW: the blade play does not happen every time the knife is opened. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Weird.
