Carry methods for EDC

Hello everyone, I am a first time RAT owner and am the proud owner of a RAT-3 thanks to Mr. Randall. I am so use to carrying typical "pocket" knives that trying to carry a RAT as my EDC seems to be somewhat of a challenge, the RAT comes with the normal options when you recieve your package, I think the sheath method would be good for an outdoors roll so I figured I would go with the bootclip for light and easy carry. The clip I read is for "in waist band carry" I tried that but I don't like the way the knife rides high and up agaist my back. The only way I can think to make me feel more comfortable is to carry the knife like it would be in WBC but clipped to the inside of my front right pocket. It's a little in the way but not too bad, I can draw the blade and replace it with no issues. Locking the blade back into the kydex requires a little bit of pressure but not too bad (thank goodness I wear a belt). So my questions, how do the rest of you carry your RAT-3? Is there a carry method I can use that would make carrying this easier and more convient? I don't want to go and get tek-locks because I want to try and work with what is already here.

Also, I am use to folders and since I am aware the is a fixed blade my friends have given me some funny looks. My thoughts are, it's no bigger than what I normally carry, this is just visible and displays my knife rather than concealing it. You guys ever get eyeballs on what your carrying or do people not look twice?

I've been trying to get a handle on this too. My RC-3 in waistband rides kind of high on the back, and a sheath would be to conspicuous for me. If anybody has a good system, could you post some photos? That would help a lot.

I forgoe the belt clip and string the paracord through the sheath using it as a belt knife.

The paracord is as secure as a teklock or integrated beltloop. The paracord that is supplied with the knife is whole (with the inner strings). It works great!

I bought a Bud Nealy kwaito with his patented MCS II concealed carry system. It works better than any other system I am aware of. The best part is, the system included extra pieces to attach to a kydex sheath and thus use the MCS II system for any kydex sheathed knife.

That being said, my suggestion would be to contact Bud directly as you might be able to get the MCS II system components without having to buy a knife to go with it.

You can see pics of the MCS II system and get Bud's contact info on his site:

Moloko Plus, I like that name.....have you played any "hogs of the night" with your droogies lately :D ?
"Clockwork Orange", a classic film......

You have to look out for the local laws. In palces like NYC you can not carry a visible blade-it must be concealed.

Have you tried using the clips to hold the knife horizontally on you belt?

I got the MOLLE back and thread my belt through the PALS loops to carry horizontally. You could also rig paracord to ride horizontally.

Fortunately I live in a free state where I can open carry knives, barring local ordinance.

How much movement do you get with the 550 para?

There is a little more play in back in forth movement on the knife draw if simply grasping the handle of the knife and pulling. However, the way I tend to draw the knife is to grasp the handle in my hand and push off the edge of the sheath with my thumb. One of the things I really like about the RC-sheaths is the extra width of sheath on the back side of the blade. For me it makes the draw nice and smooth and you don't have to tug the knife out to release it from its secure fitting.

I've found you can screw the boot clip onto the two highest holes of the sheath. This does reduce how high the blade sits on the belt but for some reason it also makes the knife a little harder to get out of the sheath.

When carrying on the belt (I typically have mine mounted on my backpack shoulder strap inverted) I use paracord to make an "X" shaped loop followed by a typical one and carry horizontally at the small of the back. I place each loop either side of the back belt loop, and while it's a pain in the butt to thread the belt through properly, once it's on there's practically no travel and it's very comfortable. I often forget that I'm even wearing it!
