searching and searching BFC and google images i found only one thread for the CV Muskrat. so after buying one as a gift to myself to getting my CDL here are some pictures of if it in almost new condition and before i put a satin finish on the bolsters. its 4 1/8in closed and decently light. it weighs noticeably less than the CV swayback jack. both clip blades came shaving sharp and well centered and there is minimal light showing through the back springs. the bone doesnt quite match up with the shield side being a good bit lighter but i dont mind that. also one of the blades sits slightly low when fully opened. if anyone has a solution to that id love to hear it. sorry for the slight blur but on with the show:

that last pic is the only thing that irks me! she'll make a fine user though and im quite pleased for me money. also the hat is nicely embroidered and made in the USA to boot! thats all folks.

Oh my!...well, theres nothing you can do with that THAT won't effect the way the spring sets when you make the change. The run up is too short..thats the corner where the end of the spring sits on the tang. If you cut that a little longer, the spring will drop down and get gradually lower as the run up gets longer BECAUSE the top corner of the tang will go lower(as the tip of the blade drops during opening).

You might consider sending it to Case and see if they can make it better some way.

That's a nice looking knife, Chuck. Congrats on getting your CDL.

As far as the one blade sitting low, have you tried flushing it out with lots of warm water and soap, or WD-40? Could there be a piece of crud stuck in there somewhere that's preventing your blade from opening all the way? Just douse the heck out of it and operate the blade lots of times. Chances are that's not your problem at all since the backspring looks flush in your pic, but that's about all my limited knowledge can suggest. You might also post this problem in the Maintenance sub-forum.

Some good pictures there. It's interesting to note the variations in colour on the Chestnut Bone, the Swayback looks a lighter shade. It's a fine choice of scales,I've been very pleased with my Medium Stockman in Chestnut/CV.

That low blade is annoying, is there blade wobble as well? How's the other end? Might be best to ask CASE directly. If you like the Muskrat pattern, try Queen Cutlery's single spring Muskie next time. I may have been lucky, but the one I got is as near a perfect production knife that I've ever owned. Can't find a flaw, it even came sharp, rare indeed......

Congrats on your new knife and CDL... Hopefully Case can remedy the problem, or give you a new knife

My wife gave me a cv Muskrat for Christmas and I have been carrying it ever since. Fit and finish is pretty good and it carries very well.

I got the same knife a couple weeks ago and sent it back to Case for the same problem with the low blade. I got a card last Friday that said they had received it and to allow 6-8 weeks for servicing, and gave me a repair number. It didn't say what they were going to do, but at least they didn't turn around and send it right back! I've got enough Case knives to know that the blade stop isn't supposed to sit that low off the spring end. Hopefully I'll have something to report from Case before to long.

If you don't mind the spring sitting low when open, I've been able to correct the same problem on a couple of other knives (not Case knives) by carefully removing metal from the end of the spring until it contacts the stop at a more acceptable (lower) point. Got the blades to land right where I want them, but as expected the springs sit below flush. I used fine sandpaper to round the edges of the liners and steel wool to polish everything back up so its not as noticeable. Works fine for a user knife where it doesn't have to be as pretty.

thanks for the comments guys. i think im just gonna keep it as is. the low doesnt seem to effect the function just the looks and it will be a user. there is no wobble on either blade and the second blade sits flush. i just wont baby her at all now haha.

I got mine back from Case today and they indeed fixed the low blade issue. Now it sits more in line with the frame and matches the angle of the opposite blade when opened. They also (almost) got rid of the gap between the spring end and the stop and rounded the top edge of the spring end to match the bolster. Now it actually looks like it was meant to fit together that way instead of looking ill-fitted. Much better job from Case the second time around.
