I was wondering if anyone has the G shock GW500A-1V and what you guys think of it, I currently have a Timex http://www.timex.com/gp/product/B00...&m=A1S5XB33AHYRMX&n=237130011&timexBrand=core
And I really like it, in fact I have it set about 1 second behing my dad's g shock which is atomic, but for some time now I have been wanting a G shock and my dad has one that is a couple of years old now and it is a nice watch and similar in style to my Timex but it is atomic now it is not a feature that I need but it is a nice feature. So if anyone has any feedback on this particular model that would be cool.

I've had my GW-500 for about 4-5 years now, no complaints about it at all. The atomic feature is nice but like you said not a deal breaker. The one thing most people would change is the Time Memo feature for a Countdown Timer. The solar feature is more of a bonus since the need to change a battery will not be needed for a LOOOOOOOOONG time, if at all. It has an Auto EL feature so when it is on when you tilt your wrist up to look at the time the back light will go on w/o having to press the light button. Also on the end of the strap there is what some call a 'nub' and it keeps the strap holder from sliding off, wish all of the G's had that.

Awesome XD45 I just need to go out and find one at wal mart of some where and try it on, I am losing my job here in the next couple of weeks on account of my store closing down and don't want to spend any more money than I have to but I did find it on sale online for about $50 but I like my Timex so far and and I just need to try the Casio on.

I have had a gw1501 for 4 years. and I can't stop it. I don't wear it all the time but occassionaly I would leave it in reach and the boy he is now three would throw it of the back deck down the hall kick it across the lounge. and it just won't stop.
Highly recommended.

+1 on getting the countdown timer instead of the time memo.

+100 on solar/atomic G-Shocks- don't have to set it, don't have to sweat the battery, tons of features- what's not to love?

Yeah, well some people like the way they look! And besides, you get used to it- what are you, some kind of a snob or something?

The solar rechargable battery on mine just gave up the ghost this past weekend... Cried for charging, blank screen - left it in the sun, said it was charged - an hour after nitefall, it was crying for a charge and had the blank screen... Guess I'll find how "easy" it is to find a replacement rechargable battery.... Will say, I've had mine for maybe 10 years with no problems!

one thing that i've found important is to keep the solar casios exposed to light...i put one away in darkness for about 2 mos. (in sleep mode) and it died, never to live again.

since then i've kept my solar g-shock exposed and it's still going strong after 5 yrs.; not sure of the model # but it's one of the thick SEAL jobs w/ the nylon band, etc.

I don't know why Casio insists on putting 60 minute timers on many models. You would think the 24 hour timer would be standard.

And don't get me wrong, I love my g-shocks, but why do they put those cheesy dials and crap on there? I would rather have a cleaner face with bigger numbers.

Shootist16 took the words out of my mouth. They are great, tough, cheap beater watches but the aesthetics are awful. I wear one sailing or out on the hills but wouldn't wear it in polite company.
Surely Casio has the resources to get a top stylist to sort this out? I'm thinking ultra minimalist, futuristic or even avant garde. Instead, it's still styled like a boy's watch from 1982.

I like something a little more like the DW - 5600E .....looks like some of the original G-shocks

they're wonderful watches....they pretty much never die! my dad owned one for over 15 years and wore it every day, and he just finally upgraded to a new one! they seem to last forever!
