Caution: Sales

Seems like every time there is a sale I get sucked in by the pricing and then a new, improved model comes out, so I've become cautious about sales, wondering in the manufacturer is getting ready to introduce a new model with upgrades. Of course this is not always the case. Sometimes the item on sale is going to be discontinued.

So what I want to know before making a "on Sale" purchase is whether or not the item is going to be discontinued or whether it is going to be replaced by one with improvements and I want to know what those so-called improvements are so I can judge whether they are meaningful to me.

I usually hunt around for information that can help me, but I am cautious about springing for sales.

Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad, and sometimes they are ugly (in the sense that I don't like getting stuck with an old model when obvious improvements are coming out.)

IMHO....anything is on "sale" for the following reasons:
1. they have to many of them
2. nobody is buying at the regular price
3. the model is about to be discontinued
4. the competition has just lowered their price
5. the model just isn't selling as well as expected
6. the knife is a "loss leader" to attract other business

But if it's the knife you want at the right price...then both buyer and seller benefit.

I think it's unrealistic to expect retailers to put knives on sale for unselfish reasons...heck, they're in business

Good point DumboD. I threw a post up last week on some items, why........well, for this dealer, they just did not move, I couldn't have sold 'em to my grandma! Just time to move things out.
