Ive made a few hawks here and there, but this is the first damascus, and im really liking it. I made it from a billet of chainsaw blades I welded up. The billet actually produced 2 equal size hawks.

I wrapped it around a tear-drop mandrel, then forge welded a 1080 bit into the end, and then forge welded the rest of the hawk closed back to the eye.

The whole thing was pretty much forged to finish shape, I had to do very minimal grinding on this'en to get it to finished shape.

I still have to finish the handle more, and make a sheath for it. Im thinking I also may put a wrought iron or a chainsaw damascus cap on the end of the handle.

owell here it is:

owell...Hell...I LIKE IT! I would not finish it too much, that ' Old World' Village Smith look is really appealing to me. What's the deminsions of the head ?

Well ya see,I was gonna finish it up as a set, here's the pic of the knife that was gonna go with it. But Im leaning towards individual pieces now.

(neither are even close to finished in the pic)

The blade is of the same type damascus, it's not a very heavy blade, as I really drew that billet out, but it forged out to about 16'' o.a., with an 11'' blade.

The hawk is:

handle-19'', but im gonna shorten it just a bit

eye- just under 1 5/8'' from end to end in the tear drop?? if that makes sense, and the wrap around part is just under 3/16'' thick, and about 1 3/16'' wide.

o.a. length- just over 7 1/8''

blade- there's about 2 3/16'' cutting edge.

thanks all

A chainsaw blade. That makes a interesting looking head. Well done !

thanks, actually its like made 6 bigg'ens went into the billet
