what is the best heat treat and temper method for chainsaw chain damascus.thanks in advance Russ Scheringer

If you know what steel it is it would make it easier. Go with the highest grade steel that is in the billet.

Heat to non-mag and quench. ( assumming you have test quenched a piece and it is hardenable)

Draw the temper at 350dg sharpen a bit of the edge do the brass rod test if it chips, back in the oven, and up it to 400dg, do this until you get a flexible edge.

Life is what it is

Mike is right, You need to know what you are dealing with? He is also right about treating it as most hi-carbon products. You might want to test (smaller portions), see what they will do. Good luck, Terry

Wait till you guys see the pattern in this piece of steel!
