Is that an exclusive Bob Lum design ? Can any other knifemakers make a chinese folder?

The Chinese folder with linerlock was adapted by Bob Lum from a traditional Chinese design, hence the name. The traditional knives are still produced in China, and there are other customs, though probably by East Asian knifemakers. I imagine that anyone could produce their own take on that old design if they wished to.

Would agree with Carlos, at least as long as they used some other opener. One could argue that, even if another maker were licensed to use the hole, doing so might cross the line between using a traditional design and copying someone else's interpretation of that design.

for your replies. Cas Iberia, is that the Paul Chen folder? I do have one and it is nice except it is not aone handed opener. I am thinking of a framelock with an oval hole opener but very similar to the Chen folder.

Of course there's always, Bob Lum himself, who will make you a custom one with a round hole, either as a framelock or linerlock, in any one of several sizes, to your specs.

Thanks, Tony! Guess that accounts for your"why I'm a Lum nut" phrase. I already asked Mr Lum but can't really afford his prices. I was really thinking of checking prices from somebody less known or an upancoming maker who might be less expensive. Maybe I should just wait for the Spyderco ZDP Chinese Lum that a lot are hoping will materialize. I appreciate your offer,

That was me. That Green Handled one has generated quite a few orders for Bob. Hope it works out for you.
