I've been collecting knives for about four months now, after collecting watches, then flashlights. I don't know what's next, but I can say I'm digging the blades! I now own Spyderco's (Military, SS Native, SS Cricket, Delica, Jester), 710 and 690 Benchmades, and CRKT DOG, Blade 2 and Wasp. My latest acquisitions, which arrived today, are the Spyderco Chinook II and the Kershaw Blur.

Chinook II: You can't be serious! Evil, nasty, heavy, wicked and strong, like my mother in law (just kidding). Borderline cartoon knife. Awesome!! This may be the strongest product I own of any type.

Blur: My first assisted opening knife. Nice balance, good looking in red and black, and fun to flick.

Photos to follow soon.

Yeah I was looking at that chinook II. The reason I like it is because it should be completely ambidextrous. 4 way pocket clip. Also I love the way it looks. I'm glad it feels nice and solid. I like my knives that way. Now to go handle one somewhere...

I'm glad you like your latest purchases. A guy should still like a knife after he lays out the cash. No buyers' remorse.

I admit that the Chinook is a strong knife, lots of good reports here at BFC. However, that 'cartoon knife' comment really hits the mark dead on!

I'm a Strider guy, so I have strong folders, but let's say that I didn't.

For practicality, consider the SERE.

For beauty, consider Microtech's USSOCOMs and LCCs.

But if you just got to have a knife in the category of the Chinook, why not the old SOG Tomcat? Sure, it's an older design. Big honkin' blade. Solid bolsters. Good grip. It has all of the best features of a Chinook with none of the Buck Rogers whoop-dee-doos.

I hear the Chinook was designed for 'combat.' Yada, yada. If a four inch folder is your ONLY line of defense, we have a problem.

Like any folder, it's a tool. The fact that it's strong is the main feature. BTW, does yours lock up really tight when it's opened? That condition has also been discussed here.

In my last comments, I opined that a SOG Tomcat met my needs more than a Chinook. I stress this, FOR MY NEEDS.

However, I believe a man should not give advice if he is not going to follow through for himself. At the time of my first post, I was NOT the owner of a SOG Tomcat, although I had admired them and held one myself. Josh Burbank had warned me that this model was going to be discontinued, if it had not been already, and I decided to act.

It took a bit of searching the 'net, but I found one, and ordered it. I say again, this is not denigrating the Chinook. My comments were sincere, and I back the Tomcat in this comparison.

Not sure if I actually received the Chinook II.....only one set of holes for a black clip (supposed to have four sets of mounting holes), but has the S30V blade. The seller is checking it out now. I've never handled the I, so I can't compare. The model number on the box appears to be correct, but the name doesn't have the II on the box.

It locks up VERY tight, no blade play. Solid as can be.

I borrowed these pics from the Knifecenter and 1SKS.

Here is the Chinook I:

So the actual difference between mine and the new is the new blade is shaped a little thinner, and the handle has 4 way mount for the clip.
The box has the product number for the new, so someone at Spyderco put the wrong knife in the box.
