choke cherry burl

Jay brought over a few burls last month, he cut it off a choke cherry tree in Plymouth, Ma.I had to see what it looked like. Cut a end piece off and put in the vacuum chamber with wood hardener.

Very nice, cherry is nice stuff any way, but burl makes it nicer. I would expect it to be a redder hue though. Is the color in the pic accurate? Cherry is usually a sort of lifkess pink but darkens quickly with exposure to air and light.

The lighter areas have a pinkish shading to it. Have to wait for it to dry out before I cut up some slabs. I couldn't believe how hard it got from the Mini-Wax wood hardener.

I have a piece of Spotted maple soaking in the Minwax Hardener right now. I will post a pic when it's done. I think it will turn out alright. If not I will still post a pic so you can see the results.

If it doesn't get hard (I am talk'g about the wood, not the woodie), send the maple to me with the mini-wax and I'll put it into the vacuum and pressure pot.
