To start off let me admit that I am just an old fart and do not really get excited about black tactical folders.
So when SWMBO said I that seeing that I had behaved myself, I would get to choose a new knife for Christmas, I had visions of vintage bone handled knives with a backspring.
Now, I spent many hours surfing the net and feasting my eyes on the gems of the cutlery world.
The cut off figure was $400, so I had many to choose from.
Looked at custom offerings and quickly came to realize that the knives that I like would make a mockery of the $400 limit...and I do not want a custom just because it is a custom either!
I wanted a smallish gents style knife that had superb fit and finish, could do a bit of hard work when required, would not frighten the sheeple, was good looking and had a blade of premium steel.
This narrowed the field down to the Nemesis Imp, William Henry, Chris Reeve's Mnandi and Spyderco's Kopa.
William Henrys offerings are beautiful, pricy but most decidedly a light duty knife.
The Imp nice, but no pocket clip and perhaps just too small for me.
So, by a process of elimination the choice was between a Mnandi or Kopa.
Most folks would cry NO CONTEST, but that is not so.
Both are tuff enough for any daily task.
Both have heaps of character.
Both are good looking.
The Mnandi is difficult to open with one hand especially when yours fingers are old, big and fat like mine.
The Kopa is a true one hand opener.
I like lockbacks.
I am not all that keen on a folder without a back spacer just does not look neat to me.
So, I disregarded the price difference, the hype, the slavish devotion to a brand and ordered myself a Tiger Coral Kopa.
