Okay here it is, I had 2 bf knives, 1 jaguar, and 1 cheap one, never really "Played" with them, so ended up selling jag, and gave away other for a bday. I found Clay's site, and borrowed the cheap knife, and have been trying to learn the moves. I got real interested again, and now I plan to get somewhere.
First of all:
What knife should I get, should I wait and save for the 42, or get something else?
Second:
Could you guys give me some sites to learn other techniques, and to buy knives from? Only sites i know are Clay's and knifezilla.com

Third:
Clay do you have routines anywhere on your page. and also where do you go into learning how to throw, the first throw i see is top of advanced, and in the descripiton you talk like youve already went over the flipping.

Sorry for my rambling, basically i could use some advice and help.

Well, you could go here for your Balis:
http://onestopknifeshop.com/store/dragon-forge-butterfly-knives.html

You can't beat the price. I recommend the DF-201 or the DF-201B. They're great beginner Balis. They're actually my daily carries.

For more techniques go to www.balisong.com . You'll find some great Jeff Imada clips over there.

As for the throws.......... you gotta crawl before you can run dude. If you don't know whats going on just by looking at the clip, then you have NO business being on the Advanced page.

The Advanced page is set-up in such a way that if you went over the Beginner and Intermediate stuff, then all the techniques there are self explanitory. Get it???

While very nice, a BM42 is well over $100. That's a lot to spend for a beginner. As Clay pointed out, you can get some nice balisongs for a lot less, beat those up until you get the hang of it, and then step up to a BM. If you've never driven a clutch, you might want to get a little used car and drive that around for a few months to get the hang of a manual tranny before springing for something really nice.

I know of only two sites that have balisong instruction on them, Clay's, and the aforementioned balisong.com site. There are some books and videos available. Both Clay's site and mine have lists and reviews.

You can get a jaguar for 15 bucks at this place: www.discountknives.com
There aren't very good pictures or descriptions, but if you already know what you're looking for, it doesn't really matter..
He also has pretty good prices on his Bear MCC stuff.. that's where I got mine..

in regards to the throwing techniiques, here's a funny anecdote. I showed my lab partner the throw in the computer cluster and he loved it. It really is easier to learn a technique from a real person rather than a video. So after his first impalement he was in love. Just last week I did a simple ice pick opening and he was enthralled so my comment was "woah. You don't KNOW this?!?!"

As for your question on Balis. I suggest you get a Jaguar surgical steel model, the lesser kinds are just turn offs but I do have a few of them I admit. But then again I horde balis and use the lower end ones to beat up in aerials and flail beatings. If you get one get the jag then move up to the 42. Good luck!
