Cleaning Brass Trim on Gerber

I have a Gerber folding knife with brass trim on the handle. The brass is spotted and dull. I would appreciate suggestions for cleaning and polishing the brass trim.

Flitz Metal Polish works well, but I have used Brasso on mine in the past with good results. The trick is working slowly, and always away from the wood so you don't imbed the gunk you remove from the brass into the wood scale.

If you want it to look like the factory finish on the old Folding Sportsman models, tape a sheet of 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to a smooth, flat surface. Put the knife on one edge of the paper, press down and slide it lengthwise across and off the paper. Do this several times, until all scratches are gone. Only sand in one direction.

From an old "squid"..........Tabasco sauce, rinse, dry..........then "Flitz". It will be a long time before it gets grungy again.
