Sorry to beat a dead horse guys, but after reviewing the threads, am I correct to say I can/should use car wax to wipe down the blade? Do you also use the wax to clean, or do you use something like a pad that you would use to clean your dishes, or steel wool, or.... Also, can I / should I use the car wax on the handle as well? again sorry to beat a dead horse.
thanks,
Dan

I use car wax on blades and wood handles, not on micarta. I use a green scotchbrite pad to clean the blade, top to edge, not longways.

I use car wax (or car wax w. cleaner) to put on my blades and handle. I just clean my knives in the sink with hot water & dish soap. You can also use silicone spray on your knife.

Car Wax does indeed make a great cleaner and polish/finish for wood and steel. As John stated he used it on his blades. I talked to another knife maker at an archery shoot I was at and he uses Meguiar's Cleaner Wax on his blades. Steel and wood. Makes a fantastic finish. He grabbed it by accident one day, and it turned out to be a great mistake.

In a world of people suggesting some exotic- specific substance to clean, fix, etc, whatever, I like something that’s simply!
Thanks again guys
Dan

I usually clean up my blades with 400 grit sandpaper (spine to edge).

well, I tried the car wax and scotch brite pads and presto!!!! the knife now looks like I always keep it on the shelf and only take it out to show off to visitors! Thanks again for the help.
