Can anyone tell me what I can make a clip for a leather sheath out of.I have no stainless, and was wondering if anyone had bought a money clip and converted it to a sheath clip. If so how did it turn out.

Thanks for any info

Bill

Bill, have a look at the boot clips Texas Knife supply sells. I've been using them on several sheaths and they work fine.

Hello, Bill! I received a flyer in the mail, this date, from the Leather Factory in which they offer three different sizes at a very good price. And you can underline the "very good"! I use quite a few of the larger size as I find them strong enough to do the job intended. They list the product as "THE UNIVERSAL SPRING HOLSTER CLIP" with the indentifying catalog number 49S1239. It is made of spring steel, nickel plated, with dimensions 7/8" X 3-1/4". These are normally priced at $1.49 each but are offered until Sept. 30th in quantities 0f 1-24 at 75 cents each. The flyer is #49S. I do not believe you will see these so reasonably priced in the future. My best to you---Sandy

A little post script here----Bill the closest LF to you would be in Springfield, MO and the toll free number is 800-888-1993---- And, by the way, a money clip makes a sorry boot clip and by the time you have purchased and converted same it would be too costly in time involved and damn near useless as a sheath clip--- Sandy

Sandy,

Thanks for the tip on the clips, I'll be in springfield in a couple of weeks and I'll go buy the LF and pick up some. I'm just needing 1 clip for this dagger sheath I'm working on and was going to run to wal-mart and buy a money clip, after your post I'm glad I didn't.

Thanks for the heads up on your clip tutoral, thats what I was hoping to find,I have the saw blade in the shop and will work on 1 this morning. How do you attach it to the sheath, sew or rivets or both.

Thanks Guys, it is really appreciated.

Bill

Bill,Either way you would prefer. The rivet would probably last longer in few years than stitching,But so far I haven't heard back with any complaints about stitching the on either..
If you only do a clipped once in awhile and want sole authorship this is the way to go.But buying some and having them around will save time but you lose the sole authorship...
When making your own you are only limited by your imagination on the shape and size of the clip, thus you can make them fit any sive sheath you want.Plus it is cool to say "yes I even made the clip"
