A few days ago, I took a small coffee can and tried making a "coffee can mini-stove" just for fun. Today, the weather was nice, so I went outside just to see if I could brew a small cup of coffee. Of course, my little stove is very crude, but at least I know if TSHTF tomorrow, I can hurry and make a quick cup of java...:D

Gettin' ready to start the fire (I actually used an Esbit cube with a PJ cottonball along with some small sticks).

Fire in the hole:

Coffee ready to drink:

I have made several of these and they work well. sometimes I don't poke holes in the top until needed, instead I just boil in them suspended over the fire, or close to it. Since I am such a friggin coffee ADDICT, I always have a supply of cans around here.

Thanks for sharing! And what knife is that?

Is the hole only cut in one side?

Yes. There is only the big opening in front along with the holes at the top. I'm gonna put more holes all around the bottom of the can (below the big opening) for better air flow.

I'm seriously thinking of going down to my local Starbuck's and sit down at a table, whip out a coffee can and Fire Steel, and begin to boil up a delicious cup of java. I will use their own instant "Via" coffee just so nothing is said. I just hope other customers don't mind a little smoke and fire with their biscotti...:D

Hi Riverwarrior -

Cool idea to have fun with your knife. They sell those little starbucks packets here at my workplace - I'll have to get a few to throw in my kit next time I go hiking.

Thanks for the pics and idea -

best regards -

That can looks familier ? LOL...Just add you some holes around the bottom of the can so the fire can get a little better oxygen flow & you'll be set ! The price of coffee keeps going up, these little "hobo"stoves are gonna get a little pricey !
