I am interested in the quality of these knives. How do the scales hold up, and how well does the Carbon V hold it's edge? I am also interested in other slipjoints, primarily the stockman variety, carbon steel and at a reasonable cost.

I have heard good things about carbon V, but have not tried it myself. If you are ineterested in traditional folders take a look at Queen. They make a line of folders in D2, which is a great steel that is semi-stainless. I am sure someone else with mor experience with traditional folders will come along and give you some more help.

I've had a Cold Steel stockman for a couple weeks now. I bought it specifically because Carbon V is a very good carbon steel known for edge holding and good tougness.

The black (faux jigged bone) delrin scales will hold up well and don't look all that bad for a synthetic.

Yeah Carbon V is good stuff! Needs a little more care than standard stainless steels we see commonly used, but it does hold an edge big time!

I have a CS Twist Lock, since discontinued, with a Carbon V blade, this is a great steel that takes and holds a razor edge if needed, like ExamonLyf, said they do require a little more attention than stainless.

My guess is that the Cold Steel slipjoints are actually 1095 carbon steel. Not that that's a bad thing. 1095 is great stuff.

Buzz,

Your guess would be wrong.

Cold Steel was actually able to source out a roll of CarbonV to be stamped out?

I can't attribute anything out of respect for the source, but suffice it to say that I have my info from industry insiders.

Sounds good enough for me. Maybe I'll pick up a Cold Steel stockman and pit it agianst a Camillus 1095 stockman, and see how much better the CarbonV does. I'm interested in how big a difference the CarbonV makes on smaller knives.
