Has anyone here seen the soon to be released Pipe Hawk from ColdSteel. It might acually be the one that knocks me off the fence into the hawk arena.

The website has conflicting information about the steel composition. in one spot it says 5150 and then in another it says 1055. Man I hope it is 5150 which would be very close to 5160:D

Anybody have info. on it or opinions on the design.

Still though, aesthetically, I like the lines of the pipe hawk, especially seeing as I am customizing one as a decorative wall hanger right now. Unfortunately, I have just bought a trail hawk before the pipe one came out which annoyed me a bit, but if my mods to the trail hawk go well, i might just get both

I've been eyeballing that one as well. I have it on my list along with the new Trench Hawk. The thing is that after lurking this forum, I've also been developing a fixation for the regular Trail Hawk. Maybe I'll just get all three.

It's just another poll-hawk, the would-be 'pipe bowl' is a solid hammer.

That actually changes my mind about it. I have no use for a functional pipe tomahawk, but I like the poll shape, and want something with more cutting edge and a bigger hammer poll than the Trail Hawk (I think the Rifleman's hawk sucks, especially the poll) for more camp duty than fighting duty, so I think I'm going to pick one up.

BTW I sent off an email asking if it's made of 5150 or 1055. 1055 is good enough, 5150 would make me ecstatic.

I also have to pick up a spike hawk, I've already got mods in mind for that.

I agree with everything you just wrote. It's the reason this one might make me buy a hawk. Please let me know what steel it is when you get a reply.

Got an email response from Cold Steel ref the pipe hawk:

The steel for the Pipe Hawk is 1055.

The eye of the Pipe Hawk should be the same as the other hawks, though that item is not scheduled to be in stock until late spring or early summer.

The trail hawk is a great one, most popular of all the hawks they offer, imho.
Haven't seen this new one yet though, any pics around? I imagine if you wanted you could drill out a bowl easy enough, the hole through the handle would be a little trickier.

Just checked the site, the pics are mock ups, but the spike hawk and the pipe hawk both look worth a look. :D

The new ones look great. Pipe hawk, and spike hawk look awesome. I just wish the spike hawk had more of a Norse Hawk bit design. For throwing the front tip gives great results when you rotation is being stretched. The other designs will bounce off with a top on hit, but the norse will stick. Spent some time throwing my rifleman and norse hawks today (and the Pole axe from them as well).

I love to get the pipe hawk simply for the lighter weight but still having the same utility of a hammer poll.

A few pics.

Or you could just buy a fully functionable and smokable CAS Hanwei Pipe Hawk for just over $50.00 and save yourself the work.

I like the CS pipe hawk for a useable camp hawk, though.

And deny myself the pleasure of a fun project?

i have a CAS pipe 'hawk. it is a POS. Total waste of money. It's glued together. It's a very poor example of a tomahawk. With the CS pipe 'hawk you would at least have a functional tool.

The CS pipehawk is supposed to be 26 oz. Gonna have a lot more oomph than the trailhawk. I like it.

That's what I really like about it. The extra weight and larger cutting edge. I will grab one when they are released.
