COLLECTORS? neat old khuk...

It is kind of interesting, how the surface of the knife and bolster are worn deeply enough to lose the fuller, but the logo looks very crisp.

...probabably from hot-stamp. like the Ashley models of HI khuks, the stamp was struck when the blade was still working hot.

You mean like a die that cut the cho and did the stamping at the same time...?

Note that the seller for this item is in the UK; for some reason, it seems like it's been raining cute old khuks in these parts lately - I picked up two in the space of ten days for a combined outlay of under $50 US; poverty compelled me to pass up another two, priced at around $50 each. All four were early-mid twentieth century, wood handles, steel bolsters; the 2 I managed to buy both proved on testing to have decently hard edges, and AFAICT are the real deal rather than Indian or tourist stuff. These were at small local antique/junk shops, not specialist dealers.

Also saw what I believe was a genuine kothimoda, similar to a couple of those illustrated in the Powell collection; but it was priced at 100 UK pounds, therefore well outside my price range.

Tom,
You're quite right. There was a very unique kothimora that had the badges of both the 10th GR and the Scots Guards on it. It went for about US$250 which it was well worth. Good kothimoras can reach very high prices if they are complete and old. Usually if you see a regiment badge on the locket it would probably be post 1950.

I have an article on the 4 types of kothimoras coming out in Arms Collecting magazine in November for those who might be interested. Sadly it will be the last issue.
