The man who taught me knifemaking passed away a couple of years ago, and as his wife was cleaning out his shop she found a knife behind a file cabinet. It is stamped Collins Legitimus #870, Made in Germany, has a stamp of a crown with a hammer in a hand, and has an upswept blade. Overall length of the knife is 26". Handle is approx. 7" long. Anyone know anything about these knives, I have never seen one before. (She is going to sell it, but has no idea of it's value.

Collins was made in Canton ,Ct. They are fairly common. They are good working tools. My Collins book by D.E.Henry does not mention anything specific about it.

Collins is a good company. The German mark is confusing, I've seen it before, but don't if it was for Collins, or was a case of TradeMark kidnapping(Collins was a famous name in the tool biz, and had their marks stolen quite a bit).

Pricing can be a bit weird, their American made stuff does well. I'd guess $20-30 for this one, because of the odd marking. I'd Ebay it too, because the machete market is small, it's best to advertise to a broad market.
