Colonial Mark I

Can anyone give me some background on the history of the US Navy Mark I Knife? Tactical Knives recently had a small article on the Mark III but not the Mark I. Was this really the Navy knife in WWII? Was it also used by the marines? Is the current release by Colonial a good representation of the original knife?
