Ok i know i'm asking for advice on a brand that probably falls in line with RR and Frost Steel Warriors. But Colt has some nice looking and affordable traditional folders in stag or jigged bone handles. Any thoughts, opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

One year,in the not too far off past,my son received a small stag lockback,as a stocking stuffer Christmas present. It was surprisingly nice, decent f&f,well made.
As far as using it & a review,I do not think it happened,it's in his knife roll.

These are on par with the Rough Rider and much that is said about them applies...good fit and finish, easy to sharpen but kinda low on edge retention (strop often), good looking knives. If there is one you like I would go ahead and get it...they are well worth the asking price.

Smoky Mountain Knife Works and Blue Ridge Knives are the sole importers of this brand now. Anything manufactured recently with the Colt markings on them were made in the same "factory" as Rough Rider in mainland China. Some good looking pieces for sure. They had some stag handled knives on Knives Live that were stunning (and quite affordable). As a steel snob however, I'm not planning to order anything in this line until there's some kind of carbon steel to choose from.

Thanks for the quick replies and advice, I definately like knowing what you folks think when it comes to a manufacturer i haven't dealt with before. I'll be ordering one as soon as i can decide which pattern... Thanks again.

I currently have the Colt CT-216 model, a 3.5" Congress in stag. F&F is actually quite good. I believe the blade steel is 440A, but I've also heard 420HC being bantered about.

My EDC for the last couple months has been the 3.5" congress, in the amber-ish bone, pretty good fit, much like RR. It does have issues with the springs not being flush when open, or closed, and different in either position... something I've not seen in RRers, but the bone fit is a lot better than a lot of RRers, so its right on par with them--so much that I bet they come out of the same factory-- It's nice and crisp and consistant from blade to blade on spring snap, 'walk n' talk' too.

As to the steel and HT, I think its real good; Got a blade dedicated to steak night/dinner time- doesn't roll the edge on ceramic plates any worse than any other brand so its not reeeeal soft. I get great edge retention with my RRers, and the colt seems to be the same steel/HT so far, has handled everything from christmas packages, heavycardboard auto parts packaging, and... Well, lots of boxes.. to scrapping wire insulation, cutting vacuum and fuel hoses, whittlin' kindling/tinder. not gonna hold an edge forever, but I got a couple weeks on it before it dulled noticable, and its still not been sharpened after a month and is 'working sharp'.

my only problem is that big 'C' stamped on the bolsters is so ugly... especially crossing the threaded/groove on the bolster... But thats an personal preference, not a quality issue.

Have also got the 2 blade #' tear drop jack/peanut they make, and its on the same plane, same level of fit etc, and a friend has several the same, so they are at least fairly consistant in their production.

I've just ordered the single blade gunstock, in brown stag bone handle, really like the blade shape on that one. I agree that the large C stamped into the bolster doesn't do anything positive for the appearence of the knife. Hopefully i'll be as pleased with my purchase.
