My foreign made Model 1 has catastrophic lock failure. I know that is not the fault of Mike and Jeff, but I no longer trust it to carry. I bought a Blade Tech RIJBAK and it is a hell of a knife. I will probably buy several more Blade Tech products, but I would really like a RC 1 folder. So guys when is the folder going to become a reality.

When Camillus closed. I purged my collection of all foreign made knives with the exception of an Al Mar that was a gift. I then vowed to only purchase US made knives. For the most part I've honored that with the exception of when I was tempted by the drop in price of the RAT folders. I couldn't pass it up. Now it sits directly in front of me while on my computer, reminding me of what I had promised myself.

I too look forward to a US made RAT folder. :)

If you send your broken folder back to Ontario, I am certain they will just replace it for you. Give them a call--it can't hurt.

Blade-Tech built the first lot of Model 1 folders for us before Ontario. Blade-Tech builds a helluva good product. Period. We fully endorse anything that Tim Wegner and Blade-Tech put their name on!

I wish I could get ahold of a Blade Tech Model 1. That would be fantastic. See here is the perfect idea. Have Blade Tech make your new one. Same blade and handle shape of the RAT 1 but with a build like the RIJBAK on the handle a full flat blade grind, with the bad ass Blade Tech hole. There you go problem solved.

yeah, I had one a while back that failed pretty easily. I sold it off (of course I fully disclosed the failures).

I'm still carrying the same Model 1 folder that I put in my pocket right after we came out with them at Ontario. It's been a tough folder so I'm not going to bad-mouth it. With that said, we ceased manufacture of them because they were built in Asia and we couldn't get parts or service for warranty. Not to mention Customs was stealing the shit out of them every time we had some shipped over. Tired of dealing with Asia on knife making. Period.

I can't say my Ontario folder has been a bad knife as I've not carried it. Had it been US made it probably would be in my pocket everyday. I can appreciate and support you guys commitment to US production. Especially these days when even the major US knife makers have at least some foreign made models. When I sold off all my foreign made knives I was told I was a fool. But the way I figure it. Its my money and my passion. How does what I care to purchase, own and use with my own money make me a fool? Besides my guess is if you ask the guy who has a job because we buy American made knives, he may think differently.

I can't wait for RAT to make a folder!

I enjoy my RAT-1, and regardless of how later ones seem to have taken a dip in quality, mine is a rock solid folder!

I was within a hair of buying an Ontario XM-1 folder when their poor behavior made me change my mind, so I'll wait for RAT to do a folder!

I had a RAT-3 D2 on order when all this started. I've since canceled that and changed it to a RC-6 pre-order. I think a better choice all the way around.

I had a RAT-3 D2 awhile back for a few months, I sold it because the handles just didn't seem right for me, didn't sit in my hand right if that makes sense???

Whatever changes RAT made for the RC-4's handles works for me! :D

I bought one way back when, thought twice about country of origin, but you guys, your involvement [rat] was the deciding factor for me, so I pulled the trigger. I have used this knife hard and it has yet to fail me. It is comforting to know you still carry one, and that you do not intend to bad mouth it. Just shows what kind of people you guys are, stand up all the way. I think to bad mouth the knife would be to ridicule those of us who bought them. I do look forward to the day when we can talk about out USA Rat folders:D

I'm ready to buy a USA made RAT Folder!

Would love to see a backlock or framelock; there are so many linerlock knives out there these days...

USA folder is in the works.... no matter the steel used for the blade and whether it is frame or liner lock, if it is RAT and USA, count me in....

Personally, I really liked the RAT-1 folder. The design was plenty large but didn't look like the "Omega 2000 Ramadi Death Dealer." Blade design was perfect for utility and the flat grind made it slice very well. I did find the handle design more comfortable in the reverse grip than the forward grip but that might just be me. I'd really prefer to see the next one made with a frame lock and ambi studs as well.

I have one of the first production run Ontario RAT folders. It has a thicker liner than my Swamp Rat Trap folder which was made by Blade Tech. Other than a slightly awkward thumb stud, the Taiwan-made folder seems to be very high quality. Maybe not quite as nice as my Al Mar SERE or Benchmade Skirmish, but quite nice for the money.

Me personally, I would love it if they just took the RAT-1 folder, made it to the same design specs in the USA with maybe D2, but otherwise don't change a thing.

The ergonomics of the handle are almost perfect already!

I would like to see a frame lock...I may have already said that a few times already!! :)
