I own the serrated version of the Native and it is my favorite daily carry!! I know sooner than later I am going to buy the plain edge version, but wouldn't mind hearing some comments on its performance?
Thanks!!

Well... whaddya want to know? I have the plain edge, zytel, GIN-1, etc. I was very pleased by the performance of the steel, since it is not the modern 'high performance' ats34 steel. But, it has worked great. I have cut boxes, opened mail, cut apples, cut coax cable, plastic ties, plastic soda bottles, and cut through aluminum cans (OK, only a couple). It would still shave hair off my arm (ok, well, scrape; but the hair came off and skin didn't

) after the coax and the aluminum. Now, admittedly, copper cored and shielded coax is not the hardest of metal, and we all know how sturdy aluminum cans are. But it did great on them. I have also used it to cut small tree limbs (about ring finger size at most). No problems. I love it, as much or more than my 710's, just because of its 'handiness.' I'm just hoping for the 3.5 to 4+ inch bladed model that I have heard rumors of.

I generally like serrated knives. I do very little push cutting and very little precision cutting so for me serrations work best. I know that Joe Talmadge says you can get a plain edge to work like a serrated edge if you do the microserrations thing, but I cant get a plain edge to perform like a serrated edge. Maybe with practice some day I will. To tell you the truth I can sharpen a serrated edge easier than a plain edge. I get better results sharpening a serrated edge anyway (thanks to Chris at Top of Texas knives for showing me his serration sharpening technique!)

That being said, the inherent ergonomics of the Native realy allow for more precise cutting. As you know from having a serrated version the knife feels like an extension of your hand. I think this design really favors a plain edge. You can really control this knife. I picked up a plain edge Native at the uniform shop. I plan on carrying it as a supplement to my serrated military. I love the feel of this knife so much that I will seldom leave it behind.

As a matter of fact I plan on getting a serrated Native soon. I will let you know about performance as soon as I have a chance to test it.
