Just noticed the Condor double-bit belt hatchets at an unnamed knife-store website.

Specs-Overall length 12 inches, weight 1 pound, head dimensions 5 1/2" x 2 3/4".
In the $50-$65 price range.
But its in stainless steel, 440C to be precise!

All my axes/hatchets are carbon steel.
The fact that its stainless is giving me second thoughts.
Anybody here own one or have any experience with this model?

And if they do do you have any good pics of them?
The pics or "illustrations" on the Condor website are not-so-good.
And the ones at the retail websites aren't much better.

Any feedback on this will be much appreciated!
:)

might be nice around saltwater.

i would rather have a carbon axe though, with a weatherproofing finish.

chopping with stainless steel (in most cases, not all) scares the you-know-what outta me.

Yeah i prefer carbon steel as well.
But the Condor stainless knives and machetes do have a decent rep.
I really like the look of this hatchet, if only it were carbon steel.
I'm torn on this one.

there are a couple of guys in WSS that really like their stainless machets, that seem to have held up well to pretty rough use.

it sounds like condor does a good job with their stainless, and i understand they (the machetes) come with good sheaths, which is a definite bonus.

yup.

all the cryogenic stuff they are doing these days makes one have to reconsider previously-held beliefs.

a lot of the 420 stuff that used to be absolute crap is turning good.

you really can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

it's still effing wierd though. :D
