Corkscrews

Man, there are some weird designs. Shame some of them never made it past the patent office. Personally, I'm a fan of the basic waiter's corkscrew. Time-tested tool with two levels for easier cork extraction. I've always wanted to check out a Laguiole, but the cost part is a little too much for me.

Thanks for the comments. Most of them work pretty well. Many of the basic principles are still used in modern corkscrews.

Thanks mods for moving this to the appropriate forum.

I'm not into cork screws.. but those are still pretty neat, i do like to see old designs, and i bet a lot of those would last the rest of my life under frequent use.

So do you own any of these corkscrews? I've been kind of interested in corkscrews for a while, but not really big on it. Whenever I see a new waiter's corkscrew, I examine it and check to see if the screw portion is sturdy enough to handle the work. Sadly, it's kind of rare to find a decent corkscrew that can take opening more than a couple bottles without bending out of place.

Yes all of those shown are in my collection.

I've used the same corkscrew almost daily (lol) for the last few years and it still works great.
