I just returned form the local courthouse - we're pretty rural here- county has about 30,000 pop - most wear a "buck" knife or a multi-tool around anyway.
I unloaded my pockets - keys, flashlight, micro-light, Wave, BM 690. The deputy said he'd have to hang on to the 690 until I left. I asked if he wanted to hold onto the Wave, too and he said no. I told him the wave blade is "as long" as the 690. Not totally true I guess, I think the Wave is 3" and the 690 is 3 1/2. I asked why he didn't want to keep the Wave too. He told me is takes soooo much longer to get out a multi-tool blade.
I guse the reason I find this so humorous, is that I've carried the Wave since they came out (99?) and I've only been carrying a selection (CRKT KFF, Delica, Endura, and now the 690 - love it) in rotation for about four months.
I guess I just find this interesting, since I literally need to remind myself to use one of the knives instead of the Leatherman. In fact, I usually find the Wave in my hand and blade open before I even think of it...
I guess the moral is - people apparently really do see multi-tools differently.
