Great news!

I just got an email from my steel supplier...

I've now got some CPM154 headed to the shop. :thumbup: :thumbup:

This is a great stainless and at a good price too!

Finer grain than S30V, good wear resistance, better stain resistance! :thumbup:

So, naturally....I am wanting to test this out on my Bushcraft knife.

In fact, I am now offering the knife in a variety of steel types....still at ridiculously low prices, of course. ;)

I want to hear back from YOU....charts, hearsay, etc...don't hold water when it's YOUR knife in YOUR hand and it will or will not do what you expected!!!

So, here's what I plan on taking with me to the Blade Show (in Bushcraft knives)

  • S30V (excellent wear-resistance, stainless, pricey)
  • D2 (excellent wear-resistance, toothy edge, moderate in price)
  • O-1 (tough tool steel, carbon w/ alloys, takes a patina, fine edge, inexpensive)
  • 3V (super steel, expensive, tough & great wear resistance)
  • CPM154 (very stainless, fine edge, stainless, moderate in price)
Since this knife is intended to be a user knife...I'm "opening the flood gates" on this one...I want to see what steel you guys actually prefer AFTER you've had a chance to use one. Maybe a passaround? We'll see...

I also have some wider CPM154 coming for kitchen knives (a perfect application for this steel).

Thanks!

Dan

Here's an updated list of the quantities I am anticipating for the Bushcraft:

3V = 53 (already cut out, ready to send for heat-treat! :eek: )
S30V = 4 ( " " )
O-1 = 5 ( " " )
CPM154 = (20 on the way)
D2 = (8 on the way)
