Next up is CQC13 number two all the way from Italy to me to convert to a tank built frame lock.

I'd forgotten how great these feel in the hand. What a grip these things have. Great feeling knives when opened up in the hand. Wow! Funny how you forget these things until you get it out and then it all comes back to ya. The grip won't change none but the weight will a bit by the time I'm done with it. Here are a couple before shots. This one already has a nice thicker lock side in it from EKI which is different than the one I owned a while back so apparently Ernie has beefed up the build a bit. Thats nice to see. This knife needed it.

Stay tuned. This one gets underway shortly.

Well on my way to the finish line with this one.

Won't be long til its a working lock. These shots are rough yet and showing where I stopped for today. All my holes are drilled and threaded. The recesses are done for the screws and I've got the short cut made on the lock. I will mill out the long cut of the lock tomorrow and make my lock cuts to spring the lock. Then it I'll test fire the lock up getting that right and once I get that where I need it I'll move on to finishing it out, heat treating the lock and then cutting in my grippy traction grooves followed by bead blasting it. At that point its all down hill after that just needing the detent ball installed and to be put together. I'm shooting for late tomorrow on this one or perhaps Sunday at the latest depending on what I run into.

Stay tuned.

Long cut is done. I've got to heat treat my lock now and re bead blast then on to the rest later. Still rough for shape but I've found its easier to take the heat coloring off after heat treating the lock than it is to try to bead blast it off after shaping. Heat coloring can be very hard to get off sometimes. Note this on my PrySTRs where I heat up the grind areas on both ends. Its sometimes covered up when I anodize it but at other times you just simply can't budge it and it stubbornly sticks even at 120psi.

No matter what anyone tells you there is definitely a diff between anodizing using a voltage current vs heating it. You don't see it much until trying to remove it. Then its worthy of praise for lock contacts since that is where we want it to stick.

I keep checking the thread twice a day :D I like big folders (which unfortunately I can only carry at work) and I've been looking at some of the big frame locks on the market debating whether to buy a new one or have the cqc13 converted. I think I made the right choice as I like the lines and the general ergos of this knife a lot

Fausto this beasty boy is all done. Not bad either. I like! I'm sure you will too.

Here are some teaser pics for you. Email inbound so check your inbox.

Thanks for trusting me with your EDC all the way from Italy.
Final weight is 5.8 ounces compared to 5 ounces when it arrived. So it gained some weight but that was inevitable with the slab of titanium I used. The new lock side is .140 thickness. Should make for one stout tank built user. Lock cuts to spring the lock both hover at .065 thickness. Waves and opens as easy as it did when it got here.

Yep and its not modified other than the fact that I bead blasted the liner side just on the top so if you really wanted to you could quite easily stick it right back together as the liner lock it started out as.

The original lock and scale along with the extra screws since I put some shorter ones in the pocket clip are all in the box and will ship home with your folder. I only wish I could get some better shots of it. My hands are shaky today and none of the pics turned out quite as sharp as I'd like. I tried though. Still better than a flat bed scanner I think. But here is one last one off the scanner as close up as I can get with my equipment.

Thanks

By the way Fausto she is a true V grind now as requested on the edge.

Hi,
Arrived three days ago at the post office but my wife only managed to bring it home yesterday. Great job, I don't think I'll need to buy any large sized folder for a long time......
I'm bringing it with me at work tomorrow :D
take care
Fausto
P.S.
tks for the lanyard, nice touch!

I was starting to wonder if it was just slow in your country or if it maybe just went on a slow boat instead of air mail there. Glad to hear it arrived safely. It should break in nicely for you.

Its a tough folder anyway so it should be even tougher now. Enjoy. No problem on the lanyard. My wife did those.
