Ok, I'm puzzled.

I purchased a CQC6 with a Titanium blade from a individual in New York who said he got the knife from a friend and was present when his friend bought the knife from Ernie himself at the 1998 blade show.

When the knife arrived today I gave it a cursory inspection and it appeared to be mint. When I got home I inspected the blade with a loupe and to my amazement it also has the old "halfmoon" Emerson logo along with the Specwar logo stamped over it.

I had thought that we had hashed this up with edmoses knife in Europe last week, but now we have another one. At the time I was satisfied with answers that were given but now I'm wondering about this second one and am wondering if all the Titanium blades have both logos.

I'll post the photo I took which clearly shows the logos. (I may need some help from John or someone to get the photo to come up from photopoint).

Derek: did you ever get a opportunity to ask Ernie about this?

Your thoughts please:

Hmmmmmmm?

Cloned perhaps?

That's very interesting. I'm not exactly sure how many were made. But when I ask Mr. Emerson how many of the Ti CQC6s were made he said, "Not many, only a handful". So I'm thinking in the 6 or 7 range.

It would be cool to find out if the rest of them had the same double logos.

But the real question goes to Sniper308, "Who is the friend's friend who gives away Custom Emersons as presents?!?!?!?"

I WANNA KNOW! I make a really good friend

sniper308,

wow that knife looks just like mine - I think I had better check my safe deposit box.

On a serious note, Derek - did you ever get to ask Mr Emerson about the Ti bladed knives?

Regards,

Ed

Ross:

Actually what I said was that both individuals were present when the knife was purchased. One bought the knife from the other for $2000.00, according to him. - But I'd love to get one as a "present" also!

I heard sometime back that maybe only 5 Titanium knives were originally made.

Edmoses, when I saw the double logos you can bet I looked hard at the photo of yours to make sure somehow I hadn't bought it. Digital cameras are a marvelous thing aren't they! I'm in agreement with John who e-mailed me and believes that these blades may have been ground early on, and then were refinished (and re-logoed) by Ernie for the 1998 Bladeshow.

Anyone else have any customs with double logos? Remember with the naked eye you can hardly see the half-moon logo, so there may be some out there that haven't been discovered!

I regret to say that I have not yet found out any more information on this knife.

My conversations with Ernie, as of late, have been dominated with plans of upcoming shows. I promise, I will ask him while we are in Virginia for TREXPO East in 2 weeks.

Take care,
Derek

The #1 Hard Use Knives In The World

Hey guys

I spoke with Ernie and got the story on these knives.

He related that six of these Ti CQC6's were made for the New York show (the same New York show that produced the CQC7 marked CQC6s).

This was a transition period from the in house electroetched halfmoon to the lasered "Emerson Specwar Knives" logo, hence the other problem.

He explained that when they applied the electricity to etch the Ti blades, it etched the logo at one to three thousandths, but it also created some anodizing around the logo that looked pretty bad. (For those that are not aware, Anodizing is a chemical reaction that Titanium has to being exposed to electricity)

They were literally hours away from getting on a plane, so he re-bead blasted the blades to get the logo and anodizing off and ran them over to have the new logo lasered on.

No one noticed the faintly visible etching of the halfmoon was still there until he got them under good lighting (I assume at the show from the way he was talking) and it was too late.

Hope this solves the mystery and many thanks to Ernie for the info.

John

Didn't the switch from HM to SpecWar take place two-three years before the knives were sold (ie '95 or '96), and at least two years before they began to date the logos? Where were the blades sitting for the three years in between? Wasn't the dash to the airport the reason for the CQC7 marking instead? I'm more confused than ever!

Again, I'm only going by what Ernie was saying.

The outsourcing of the laser etching and the rush wer given as the reason for the CQC6/7 marking mess up.

As to when the halfmoon etching took place vs the laser marking, the impression I got was that it occured in a very short time frame.
