Had mine for a year. I use it a lot around the house to cut boxes, etc. Plan to keep it in my car as a survival knife, and will use for hiking. It's a bit small, so I plan to get a Mountaineer II (5 1/2") companion for it. If I had to do it again I'd special order the Aviator with a single guard - I think it would look better, like the Mountaineer I. It's also available special order in silver.

It feels very good in the hand, surprising for a round handle. I keep a small round magnesium fire starter in the hollow handle.

I don't like the pancake sheath which makes the package too large, but have to admit it is very comfortable.

In this post you are "considdering" (great spelling!!) buying an Avaitor. In Another post you are listed as wanting to buy one! Which is it?? Are you shopping, buying or just browsing...???

Please see your other thread if you don't know the difference between "considdering" and "I would like to purchase a used CRK mountaineer1 or an Aviator"....

Let's keep this honest...

C4 . . . IMHO, and, to use a cliche, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. If you're going to fuss at this relatively new poster about spelling, you should try to be consistent in the way you spell "Aviator" or is it "Avaitor"?

While on active duty in the Army I carried an Aviator on my trouser belt while in the field. The idea was that if I ever got separated from my LBE etc I would still have it. I kept it with me all the time.

At some point I read an article and it made sense that if a survival knife with saw teeth were needed to be used as a weapon that the saw teeth could hinder the blades withdrawl. Makes sense to me.

I now carry a CR Mountaineer with a 4" and love it.

ralphtt,

Touche´!!

MY SPELLING STINKS! I will be more careful on calling others on theirs in the future. (Have you ever heard the one about the guy in the glass house who doesn't care about rocks, because of the freedoms given by Second Amendment....

As far as Encycloatom goes, I must give him some credit for trying. I get lots of emails from him: Let's leave it at that!!

I have an Aviator and like it very much though I sometimes think that it is a little small. I would like for CRK to make an Aviator the size of the Shadow IV.

Anyone else?

While on the subject of me being a design and marketing consultant to CRK, how about a larger Aviator with teeth on the spine. One for wood and the other for metal so that you could concentrate short saw strokes on that portion of the saw teeth best suited for the medium.

That's the old MK4, except the different teeth styles.

In your opinions which would be more practical, the Aviator, Mountaineer 1, or the Shadow 3?

Encycloathom: Greetings from the upper Keys. I think much has to do with your intended uses. Overall, the Aviator has more utility given its saw teeth. All of the 4" One Piece Range Knives are great, just depends upon your tastes and intended uses.

I said on a previous post that I thought the single-guard Mountaineer I looked better. Anyone order a Mountaineer I with saw-teeth or an Aviator with one guard?

Dan,

They are all great knives! It just depends what you want to do it! (Thanks for the email...)
