I was browsing Crawfords website and found a picture of his Wortac knife. This is one beautiful knife. I wonder why it hasnt gotten much attention. I am sure the quality is excellent like all of Crawfords knives. Is it overshadowed by the popularity of the Kasper? As a matter of fact the Carnivore kind of looks like a cross of the two. Any comments on the Wortac?

I believe the gentlemans name is Kelly Worden. I think wortac is a style of self defense that he developed. I found a website about him. It is: http://home.earthlink.net/~wordenk/datu.htm

I wonder if a Wortac can be had with a rolling lock like Crawford's Carnivore? And a satin finish of course.

The Wortac is a very interesting knife. I played with one at the Blade show. Like the REKAT Escalator, it was designed to be used as a non lethal weapon when the blade is closed. The feel of the grip is great. It has a similar feel as the KFF. It is a large knife in all aspects. It felt good in both reverse grip as well as saber.

Pat and Wes make a smaller version than the one he advertises. I am thinking the smaller knife would be the way to go with this one. That is, if you are thinking about carring it comfortably. I don't know for sure about the Rolling Lock being used on the Wortac. I don' t think it will be. I know it won't be used on the KFF. Pat said Bob Kasper is very happy with the KFF as is and wants no changes to it.

The Carnivore is actually a mix of Crawford knives. It has the blade of the Shark, with a slight recurve, Like the Wortac. The handle is a mix of the KFF and the Wortac. Pat said there was another influence in the Carnivore, I can't remember what though.

I like the Wortac and I hope to have one soon. I will probably add a Carnivore as well.

I have several of Kelly Worden's training tapes. I emailed him about the Wortac folder. He said that he would be releasing a training video for it.

I was also wondering why I haven't heard it discussed in mags or even on the forums.

Axel,

When I saw it and Blade and asked Pat about it. He said it was pretty new. I think it has gotten much out there yet.

The handle is just a bit big for my hands. It looks like an oversized carnivour handle with a RL.

here is a pic for all who may be interested. Very cool knife indeed. I sure would like one with a rolling lock.

Well, if the UPS gods were smiling on me, I would have had the mini Wortac today. I will have to wait until Monday to get it.

I'll let everyone know my initial impressions as soon as it arrives.

Dennis, I take it you like this knife.

If it's allowed by Worden, I'm sure Pat would put a rolling lock for you, if asked. But, it may like the KFF where Kasper nixed the RL (as reported by Axel.)

Well, the mini-Wortac just arrived at my door. I am quite plesed. The knife is has a 3" satin blade with the same recurve as the larger one. the liners and clip have very attractive, but not overly done file work. the black Micarta scales are about half the thickness of the what you find on Crawfords ful size knives. Pat put some cirlular indents in the micarta towards the butt of the handle. It makes it very nice to transition from saber to reverse grip.

the knife feels great in natural or saber grip, but it's size makes revers grip not quite as comfortable. You feel like you want more of the handle in your hand. If you choke up, or down as the case might be in reverse grip, you can get your entire hand on the handle. Even with the finger notch, it is not that uncomfortable.

Fit and finish is great. I said earlier that the smaller size would be much easier to carry, that is very true. I think if you want a mor secure feeling with this knife in all grips and still have a reduced size over the large version, a middle size would be perfect. It should maintain the same thickness as the mini.

I think this one is a keeper.
