Well, this contest marks my 2K post on BladeForums. Also my 734th post in this subforum, which actually pulled ahead of General, because the folks in here are just so much cooler. Yeah, that's right.

Anyways, as is the custom in this section, I'm wanting to give a little back. In order to keep this kosher for the Becker subforum, the contest is Becker-themed, and based around the BK11/14/13. The BK11 was my first Becker, and the one that got me started in here. It's also the first knife I made a handle for, and after doing a reasonably okay job with my first handle scales, also got me into knifemaking. So I owe quite a bit of my current interests to the BK11, and to Ethan in general.

Restrictions:
*Must be 18 years of age or older (if I ask for proof, you shall and will provide it)
*Must live in the continental United States, excluding New York City.
*Must own a BK11, 14, or 13, but NOT limited to Beckerheads.
*Must be a contributing member of the forums, particularly this one.
*Must abide by all local, state, and Federal knife laws.
*Must be a carbon based life form
*Submit entries no later than May 5th 2012, 11:59 pm EST. (Subject to extension if it takes my heat treat guy longer to finish HT'ing the prizes than expected).
MISCELLANEOUS fine print: Winner agrees to abide by all local, state, and federal laws regarding knife ownership. I will not be held responsible for any injury or death caused by inappropriate use of the knife. The knife is not a toy and should not be treated as such. These knives are sharp and can cause injury if mishandled.

In order to enter this contest, you must state: "I'm in, and I love me a Becker Necker!", and post a short review of your BK11, 14, or 13. In this review, you should tell us at minimum why you like the knife, what features you think are particularly well designed, and of course, for a a balanced review, any features you'd change, or what mods you think should be done to the knife to make it perfect for you. Because this is the Becker subforum, you must include at least 5 pictures, the sexier the better, although it must be kept family friendly. If you want to post other sorts of pictures (Captain Airyica and Gwenny?), you know where those go. You may enter once for each review you submit of each knife, but you may only submit one review per type of knife, limiting each person to 3 entries.

I'm opening this up to anyone who owns a BK11, 13, or 14, not just Beckerheads.

I will pick the winners by post number using a random number generator. Unlike my past contests, there's no skill required here. Just pictures of your Beckers, and getting to talk about how much you like them. Basically, what you do anyways.

Here's what you can win. Unfortunately, since I've been spending every last cent on knifemaking supplies and stuff, I don't have spare cash to buy another Becker to giveaway. So, I'll be giving away a couple of my own creations instead.

First prize will be one of my new design of EDC blades:

2012-04-05142738.jpg

It will be one of the blanks pictured, and will look something like the center knife, but pinned instead of using screws. It will have a 3.5" high flat ground blade, 3/16" 1095 steel professionally heat treated by one of the custom makers from BF, probably bocote handles. Maybe mosaic pins. Haven't decided yet. I don't do kydex, so unless one of our kydex benders is interested in sweetening the deal, you'll get a basic leather sheath of some sort.

The other prize will be one of my little tiny EDC blades. Blade's about 2.5", also 3/16" 1095, FFG. Black canvas micarta handle.

Size comparison with my BK11 CSM:

The one thing I do ask from the winners is that they send me some feedback to help me improve. Thanks for everything fellas, and good luck!

Hooray 2K!

Good looking knives there. I'm really liking the little one. Has me wishing I owned a necker or eskabar right about now. Very generous CF.

I will do kydex on 'em. If anyone wants me to. Either the winner can send em to me or CF can send em to me then I will forward them to the Winner.

I'm not an ''official'' 'bender yet...so I understand if y'all dont want me wrappin plastic around ur new knives! LOL

Thanks Thrillbilly. Kydex I think is better for an EDC blade anyways, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Well, you could always get one! Contest doesn't end for a while, after all.

The thought crossed my mind but with hardly enough money to do laundry, and a brand new 15, it just doesn't seem prudent. Hell, i'll probably do it anyways. Thrill had to go and get generous too, further tempting me.

The BK14-Eskabar
A collaboration between BK&T/Ka-Bar and ESEE knives, it combines the trusted blade/steel of the BK11 with the ergonomic handle of the Izula. When hybrids are done correctly, they can be better then the sum of their parts...and the 14 was done correctly!

At ~7'' OAL length, it falls in the perfect balance of ''large enough to use comfortably'' and ''small enough to carry with ease''. The 1095CV steel is easy to sharpen, and takes a keen edge, as well as possessing good edge-retention qualities.

There are multiple scale options which enhance the blade's capabilities. Factory Zytel in orange or black, 550 wrapping in any color/style the user can imagine, and the ESEE Micarta from their Izula fits the 14 with minor modifications/fitting. The sky is the limit in after-market scales for the 14, from Glow-in-the-dark synthetics to high-end wood scales.

Aftermarket sheaths in various designs and materials (Leather, Kydex) are readily available for the 14 as well. Many fine Makers for both scales and sheaths can be found on BladeForums.com

As is well known among Becker Fans, the 14 is great as-is...but lends itself perfectly to customization/modification. Stripping, coating, etching, re-profiling, Scale treatments..the possibilities are only limited by the Consumer's imagination.

''This is my Becker, there are many like it but this one is Mine''
My personal BK14 has been modified to fit my needs, Jimping was added, and blade was stripped of coating and blue/bleach etched. I chose Ka-Bars orange Zytel as the scale option, with a touch of stippling added. I have also went with Kydex as the sheath of choice.

I have been EDCing my 14 every day since I bought it ~2 months ago. It has proven itself as a trusted companion that is Much tougher then it's diminutive size could lead one to assume. It's never failed me in any task I ask of it... ''Buy your own 14, I'm keepin' Mine!''

I'll try and show the progression of my BK-11 since I've owned it.

I absolutely love this knife and carry it daily. The shape and weight are great. The size is perfect, my pinky rests on the butt of the knife comfortably. I've never had an issue with the handle being too short and I have med/large hands. I can get the BK-11 razor sharp and it holds the edge pretty well. Its easy to sharpen too. I'm not crazy about the bottle opener, but it has come in handy a few times. To me this is just a great all around knife at a tremendous value. My favorite mod is the jimping. If there's one thing I would like to see added to the stock BK-11 it would be jimping. My sheath developed a slight rattle, but I just took Bladite's advice and shoved half an earplug down in it. Other than that, this is a perfect knife for me and I can't say enough about it. Everybody needs one of these knives!!
Cool contest. Thanks a lot!

Awesome contest, thanks for giving away things you actually built with your hands!

Here is my entry, going with the BK14 which may be my favorite of the whole BK&T line:

I am still unable to find a thing I don't like about this knife. It can jump into so many roles, including ones that you would expect to need a bigger knife for. It has been my pocket chef's knife, my gardening buddy, my EDC assistant, my small wood processing knife, and so much more. It has enough belly to be perfect for draw cuts and the handle shape contours perfectly to the hand when in use, especially with the new after-market zytel scales. Many small knives like these would not be comfortable to be used for long periods of time but that is not an issue with the 14.
The 14 will also always have a special place in my heart because it is the first Becker I ever modded, as it is not too daunting of a task to take on for first timers. I stripped, sanded, and patinad mine and I am waiting on some custom orange kydex pants to match the scales and complete the perfect little small knife package for me. And maybe the best thing of all is it's outstanding value, even after the after-market scales and some custom kydex I will just barely be up in the price range of a base level Izula. Thank you CrimsonFalcon for the sweet contest and thank you Ethan for the awesome knife!!

The BK11 is the quintessential small fixed blade knife. I love the way the BK11 can be modified and personalized. I am on my third BK11...I got the two BK11's pictured for my sons and I have one waiting in the que to be modified. I really like the drop point and the fact that ithe BK11 is ruggedly built and can handle the tasks usually intended for much larger blades. Although a smaller knife, the handle fits my hand well ane I like the bottle opener on the end.

Thanks Crimsonfalcon for the chance!

Looks like the Eskabar is winning in popularity so far between the 3 entries. Also, Thrillbilly needs to get more bandwidth!

I'm in with my BK14. Love the little thing! Although the BK2 was my first becker, this one gets the most use. The steel is easy to sharpen but takes a good edge while being strong. I got Tommythewho scales and a custom kydex sheath for it and all together its a great little setup. I'm very happy Kabar is making zytel scales now, that was one of the things that it needed (IMO). At first I had wrapped it, and it worked fine, but with scales it is so much more comfortable. Also, I hate the stock sheath, but that's the beauty of Beckers, being able to customize them! :D

My Eskabar the day I got it. I liked the paracord wrap I did. It was very grippy.

All done, with a thinned out edge and the zytel scales stippled.

The Eskabar is quickly becoming my favorite EDC blade. It's not very big, but it is easy to carry anywhere and everywhere. Carried just to the right of my belt buckle in the AZWelke sheath, it's always quick to hand and ready to go; no straps or snaps needed to get it out in a hurry. The perfect emergency blade.

With the scales stippled, the knife sits rock solid in the hand. It doesn't matter if your hands are wet or not; the stippling does it's job.

While not heavily convexed, I ran it through my Work Sharp and it is very sharp indeed. Now that I've got the aftermarket kydex, the edge isn't dulled in the sheath anymore, and I can maintain the edge easily. I've used the 14 to do everything from spreading mayo on a sammich to slicing through stretch film. One customer was particularly impressed by how easily it cut open the plastic surrounding a roll of bubble wrap as though the plastic wasn't even there.

I love this knife. I sent one to my sister, who wanted a small fixed blade to EDC herself. She loves it as much as I do.

Good contest. Thanks for the chance, Falcon.

Thanks for the contest crimsonfalcon. I like the look of that little EDC with black micarta.Hope I get lucky.

I'm in, and I love me a Becker Necker!

I have a BK 13 and 14 and I EDC both every day. They are so much knife for the size and money and just work great. All the knives I used to EDC are either sold or collecting dust.

My first was a BK11, had it a few weeks and it got misplaced for a month or so. I was hating life at that point so I ordered this 14. It was the start of many mods.

The Remora works pretty good for shaving those pesky chest hairs to win more Beckers :)

When I found my missing 11 I batoned it through some tin to make up for lost time.

Thanks for the entries all! Don't forget, you need at least 5 pics and a short review to be eligible (thinly disguised excuse for Becker pron, of course, but hey).
