Just got one of these and would like some feed back. So far I very much like the knife but hate the sheaths. Has anyone tried a custom sheath for this knife? Thanks!

yes i have one and love the knife/hate the sheath - got a sheath from on/scene tactical, was $28 if memory serves, including shipping, i think he keeps some in stock for the companion - i have been looking at polkawski custom companions and the CRKT is a very faithfull copy of the design - about the same weight even, thought the custom would be lighter - but for the $$ ya cant beat the CRKT version, oh yes the custom has better steel, etc but it also cost 10X as much ($300) - like i said in an earlier thread the CRKT polkawski/kasper companion+on/scene tactical custom holster = a bad a$$ combo - the sheath also works great on sweatpants, shorts, jeans, etc - a little tight when i first got it but has loosened up w/use, and still holds the knife very securely - CRKT should supply one w/every companion they sell, and ya would get 1 good sheath vs 2 bad imho,,,,,oh on scenes addy is as follows.....

CRKT Polkowski Companion is very good bang for the buck as far as the knife goes, but everyone seems to agree on the sheath not being up to par. This is another one, like the Nimravus series, that will keep Normark, myself, and others busy making after market sheaths. :) The "bean counters" at the big production companies will usually go with the cheapest sheath that will carry the knife and don't realize that the knife and sheath is a system that needs to work together to function best.

This is a very good bang for the buck blade.
I was lucky enough to get a sheath that "broke in" after working with it for a week.
I see the point of many others who are having problems with the sheaths. The other sheath that comes with the knife is a bit of a bitch in that regard, but I don't use it much because this is not really a good neck knife.
The knife itself is just a thing of beauty to hold. Your hand locks onto the handle. The blade's edge is not too thick to do utility work and not thin enough to be considered weak. A good yeoman thickness IMO. Edge geometry on mine is very good and the knife cuts with ease. The wonderful thing about this knife is that it's not too big to draw a lot of unwanted attention.:)
Great knife, so-so sheath.

Hi Frank.

You've got two of the best sheath makers replying to you in this thread! I've got Eric's system for my CRKT Companion, and it's great. I do think I've got to get in touch with Mike on a couple of sheaths for my D2 SE Sifu and my Carnivour as well! You can't go wrong with sheaths from these guys.

Hank

yeah eric i plug your stuff and dont even get a thank you?!?! shame on you - awwwwww just kidding, have a good one bud.......and yes mike and eric are the 2 best guys on custom sheaths around, that i'm aware of.....either one and ya cant go wrong - again CRKT Polkawski/Kasper Companion+on-scene/tactical sheath=the bomb as far as bang for your buck.....

Thanks for all of your replies and information. I am glad to know I can get a first rate sheath for this knife. I have been able to break in one of the factory sheaths with the aid of some Triflow lube, but will likely replace it in the near future with one of your custom sheaths. Thanks again!

Another guy and I were dissatisfied with the CRKT sheaths, and got the first customs Eric made. They're great!

Hey Bugs...

Thanks Bud... Appreciate that..:)

Al Polkowski himeself has given me his blessing on them:)

I'm pretty happy that the designer of the blade likes the sheath..:)

Eric...

I like the CRKT Companion sheath Eric sent to me. He does excellent work.

Give Bob Kasper credit for the knife design.

yeah,my little brother got one. HUGE deal for thirty bucks. im seriously considering one sometime in the future.

the sheaths...
i cant find a problem with the sheaths. easy withdrawal and replacement. comfortable, although i wouldnt wear it 'round the neck due to the wieght.i dont see what the deal is with the sheath, though.it is zytel, and not kydex, unfortunately, but it serves its purpose.

can anyone fill me in?
also, not to knock eric's work,as they are great, but i cant see spending the same amount of money on a sheath AND a knife...

Hey Mo...

No doubt the sheath does it job.. This is the same kind of thing with the Sharade Sharpfinger. Great knife but some people were in need of a sheath upgrade to do specific tasks...
It's kind of the same as my wife asking me why I need $6000.00 dollars of competition quality car audio running 12 speakers and pushing some 800-1000 watts in a $3000.00 89 Olds Cutlass... :)

It's not an expensive car,,but man does it Crank the tunes..:)

A little tweaking and upgrading Never hurts..:)

Al...

Thanks for dropping in and I will give Bob the kudos for the design work..
Thanks for your input, it is appreciated..

Hank -- I'm so embarrassed! My memory did one of its seive moments, and I didn't take the time to rummage in my e-mail. Truly, I often forget what my own name was yesterday.

Eric -- I speak only the truth!

Al -- I certainly know that you deserve a great deal of the credit for the knife Bob Kasper designed. It is a great one, just as the CRKT KFF is, IMO! Nice to see you on the forum!

Whomever -- the problem with my original sheaths was that they had anything but an easy withdrawal. I mean it was major wedgie time when I tried to pull the knife out. I just can't go around in public stimulating myself like that! People stare! (They also get nervous about people who moan as they repeatedly withdraw and replace their knives in public.)

I must admit that with a bit more time and a few more efforts at withdrawal, that one of the originals loosened up significantly, and is now useful. The other one remains like the stone that held that famous sword in ye olde Englande. King Arthur and all that stuff. Again, my memory isn't serving me.

i liked the one i got, ended up getting another carry knife though, so i have one for sale at $25 (includes shipping/excellent condition) if anyone is interested, super knife for the price..
