I'm looking for a combat knife between 7-9" blade length out of CMP 3V. I'd like to keep the price under $600 and I don't mind if it is recurve, tanto point, etc..... I want a micarta handle along with a good protective finger guard. Tactical style would work to as it might be considered for light survival uses. My question is who would you all recommend as an excellent producer of CMP 3V blades of this type? I'm looking at some of Jerry Hossom's work and am impressed, but I'd like to hear some opinions. Thanks.:)

Jerry Hossom would be a good choice, as would R.J. Martin. I think the Jones Brothers will work with 3V also. Trace Rinaldi is another good maker that uses 3V.

Try Jerry Hossom, you'll love that recurve, although will take some time finding it, but it really worth.
BTW,could someone please tell me how can I upload a photo? Thanks!

I'd recommend Randy Martin also. You might have to wait a while for one though. I have a CPM3V large tanto from him and I love it, but, you have to bear in mind that as good a steel it is, it will rust on you without the proper care. I had one of Randy's "Mayhem" models in S30V, (should have never let it go) and I firmly believe that that knife is one of the best fighers around. The Pathfinder is in 3V, but a little larger than you said you wanted. I belive there is a Mayhem and a Pathfinder at ridiculously low prices at:

I think they are still available acording to the post.

I've been toying with the idea of buying both of them, but, as much as I admire their design and expert construction, I just can't justify owning working knives like that any longer.

Good luck,
Frank

Yes, first you'll need a Gold membership... :) I believe non-gold members cant directly upload pics, but if you have any pics already hosted on a website, you can get them into posts by putting:

img inside brackets [], then the url, then the same except a "/" before img within the second/last set of brackets. I would show you what it looks like, but it then becomes HTML and it wont show up.

In the meantime, heres a pic of my Hossom Combat Stiletto in 3V. I HIGHLY recommend Jerry, his customer service is as good as his knives, which is to say, the best. :)

I'd order one from Jerry in a heartbeat, but he is backlogged and isn't taking orders probably till around the end of this year.:( I'll probably commision him to make three for me when that window is there. The Pathfinder is just too big for my purposes. I know I said 7-9" blade, but I'm looking for 7-7.5". The John Hossom Retribution style blade is what I'm drooling over right now. So, if any one has a 7" Retribution in CPM 3V that they want to part with.......I'll buy it from you.

I might get a Fehrman tanto for now(their price is good). I know Fehrman is geared more towards outdoor knives, but I'm looking for more of a tactical knife. Anyone have any opinions on their Cold Fury tanto blades? How do you feel about Fehrman's work and performance enhancement with CPM 3V?

More a question of who's style blade you like.
Their reputations are all well earned and moving to Cpm3v only makes a difference during the HT and tempering process.
