i am looking for a maker to make me a custom folder.something along the lines of a large sebenza.i like the knife for its incredible simplicity.it is the only knife i know of that the maker gives you the tools to take apart and does not void your warranty.the knife has to have a open back rock solid lock, ball detent, and built out of jerry busses infi steel.i dont mind paying for very good quality.can anyone help?

Eli, Busse is the only one that has INFI and he doesn't sell it for use by other makers. Only Busse uses. The other problem is that it is all 1/4 inch stock so any folder made out of it would be very thick. Namviet had Johnny Stout cut the blade off of a Maddog fixed blade and put it in a folder so maybe you could buy a Busse and have someone do that but once again its 1/4 inch stock. Also, Busse doesn't do customs.

Sorry to have to break it to you. Look into 3/v steel. Comes in thinner stock, and buy it and is nearly as good as INFI if not as good.

thanks and take care

Darrel Ralph has experience with the integral lock. His Apogee is has an integral lock. Maybe you can commission him to do something for you, pehaps not in infi steel.

So does Mike Lampery of England. He makes a very nice intergral locking folder, somewhat more tactical looking than the Apogee, but just as well done. ATS-34, Damasteel, BDS and Stellite(possibly Talonite now) are available.

Don't forget to pay your taxes...they eventually become my knives:)

Going with the Lamprey let's you look coolly at the Sebenza owners, the way a Bentley owner looks at guys driving a Rolls.

Mike's moving into his new house this summer and quitting his post as mayor. He'll start producing full time in the fall. WAY better than the 12-20 knives a year he's been doing. Everything down to the screws are personally fabricated by Mike. (Sebenza owners?)

His basic design is an awesome starting point, and he takes great pleasure in finding new ways to personalize it to a customer's particular liking.

If you're willing to wait a little longer and pay a little more (for the international calls, too!), a Lamprey is, IMHO, best of breed for integrals.

Here's a link (or just the address if it doesn't work...) to mine:

Hello Brian,

Nice write-up on the Lamprey. That is a beautiful knife. What shows does he attend?

Thanks, Larry!

He has yet to attend an American show. I'm pretty sure he was in Paris last year. He does a few "sporting gun club" shows in the UK, but with their weapon laws, it's not a great market.

I think he'll be much more accessible after he completes his move this summer.
