To all,
I have a similar thread running in the discussion forum. A good friend of mine is leaving the Army for good, and I'm trying to find the perfect knife for him. Need suggestions on the custom side of the house, but, I'm trying to keep it under 250. Please stop laughing, I am serious. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Tobi,

Are you looking for a fixed blade or folder?

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Les,
I am looking at both, but leaning towards a folder. I have to ask for suggestions, as there are more than a few makers I have no clue about out there.

Any suggestions that come to mind?

Thanks!

Hey bud, what's up? Just got back from Leave. Folders tend to stretch towards the higher end due to "complexity", however there are many small custom (3.5"-4") FB's that are available. Most tend to start reasonably priced with the standard micarta or cocobola type handle scales and rise from there. A few small FB recommendations are:

TH Rinaldi
Simonich
Dozier
Boyer
Randall* (not custom, but good options avail)
Ed Halligan

here's a few of what I have, great looking/working blades...hope it helps, and good luck.

Dave

For a folder under $250, either watch the for sale forum, sometimes good stuff pops-up in your range. The only makers I can think of are Mike "Whiskers" Allen and Dick Atkinson.

I like my women like I like my knives: strong, sharp, well-formed and pattern-welded!

Go to Madpoet Custom Knives website and you'll find everything your heart desires. I have three of Mel's knives and they are fantastic. A fourth is on the way! He has a sweet-looking friction folder and an awesome new lockback. His knives are superb.

Bailey Bradshaw is VERY up and coming, and can do most of his traditional folder catalog, with some options, for under $250. I have two of his knives (My newest is in July Blade, pg 122 - NOT under $250, though!) , and have given one for a gift. Always a pleasure...
