I know some time back there was a post that talked about custom handles for production knives. I am looking at changing the handles on my Cold Steel fixed blades (Trailmaster and the Recon Scout). Nothing super fancy, maybe just to a green Micarta or somthing different from the rubber.

If anyone knows who does such work, I'd appreciate the information.

Thanks

I'm guessing you can find someone that will do it..., but I'm also guessing the cost will be prohibitive (just a guess)..., and a long wiat too...

Why do you want to do that with a production knife anyway??? Just rough up the handles if you want them grippy.., but I think those knives have sufficient grips myself.

Good luck...

Jake Evans is doing my trailmaster right now. Look him up on the forums. I cannot wait to get mine back.

Very nice, but, judging by the price of his knives, I doubt I could afford to have him put a handle on a $75 Recon Scout. ;-)

The kraton handles on the trailmaster is a weak point of an otherwise excellent knife. Unless the price is disproportionately high, it would probably be worth it. They used to come in stag. Maybe some are still out there.

Blademan13 did this excellent rendition for me in Canvas Micarta. Simply excellent work, and Jamie is a great guy. He is the type of person that makes this hobby great. His prices are quite reasonable. I think for a job like this he would charge around $75. (though I am not speaking for Jamie, this si just a guess) This is an excellent price given the obvious craftsmanship involved.

It is shown with my Busse BM:

In addition to the handle, he put a thin convex grind on the edge, and gave the knife a hand rubbed satin finish. I would add another $25 for this.

For about $100 in custom work and your old knife, you have a knife that will significantly outperform virtually all production and most custom knives over a wide range of tasks. The handle is extremely comfortable and really enhances the usability of the knife.

Jamie has done several other knives for me, and others that I know. Everyone has been VERY happy with his work and service. I can't stress enough what a great job Jamie has done for me, or how great he has been to deal with.

When it comes to making a knife the way you want it, Jamie is the best.
