custom maker knife list

why doesn't bladeforums compile a list of custom knifemakers? it would be great to see a alphabetical list of any custom maker who wished to have their contact information available for all to know. nothin' fancy but a simple "yellow pages" type directory, maybe mike can charge a small fee for these lsitings and links to these makers' sites if any.

My advice is to buy a new Knives 99. They have the best index of custom makers on the planet. They have been working on this list for 19 years.

To try and put a knifelist together such as you suggest would be a daunting task, even for the great and powerful Spark!

hello my hallowed friends,

i already have the book "Knives'99", and it was the list in that book that gave me the idea for an I-NET version here on blade forums. the list in the book is very comprehensive but i thought a click and point feature to makers with web sites would be a nice touch here on blade forums. i have seen the list on Mr. Horn's site but it seems the traffic generated here would be tremendous.

but, yes i would not envy the task put to spark....

I agree, I wish there was a prepared bulk email list or "yellow pages" available to inform people of what is available on the net.

The yearly publication of Knives by Ken Warner is a great asset to everyone, but majority of the way to contact everyone is surface mail.

People do publish their email address, but an already prepared one would be nice.

Now that you have mentioned lists, anyone knows what hapopened with International Knife Directory? They just stopped updating six months ago. I tried to e-mail them but no answer.

I agree that Knives '99 is a useful reference, but it is fraught with errors and omissions.

I know of one maker who has nine entries (photos of her/his work) in the last three years of this publication and five of them are incorrectly captioned, or in once case the knife is attributed to another maker.

There are people in the index who haven't made a knife in a long while and who have asked repeatedly to be deleted.

So use it as a starting place but don't expect it to give you much in the way of accuracy.

the site at horn.net and the bay area knife collectors assoc.. are two great places to go for very long lists and web sites/email address....after looking over the posts above i see a link to the bakca site....very extensive....
