where edge retention and wear resistance are concerned, which is better, case cro-van or queen d2? (or any other option i may not know about)
thank you all in advance for your expertise and experience.

D2 holds an edge longer but can be difficult to sharpen. CV takes a great edge fairly easy but doesn't hold it as long as D2. For slippies cv holds an edge fine for me.

+1

For ease, Queen D2 will need diamond stones for the first sharpening.
Then as needed the touch up will be easy.
The edge holds for a long time.

Case CV comes up razor sharp easily on any stone.
And you will need to sharpen regularly.

D2 patinas to a grey after a long time
CV patinas quite fast

Both are excellent

I think the same way as neeman and mmarkh
.
my favorit is the CV, bouth because of the easyness to keep sharp but also my difficulty to make D2 realy sharp. I get it hairpoping after a good deal of work but it doesnt hold that way longer than any other steels, then on the semisharp level it holds that edge for long but I want my blades sharper than the D2 worklevel.
Bear in mind I base all this on one single queen #9 stockman and I keep it at a low edgeangle.
I have three CV knifes, medium stockman, mini trapper and sodbuster jr. I think that Case CV is a nice steel for a traditional slipjoint of this size.
