Does anyone know of any double-edged combat knives that are very tough? I want one that you can almost use for prying. Does anyone have any comments on the "Gerber Mark" knife or the "Peacekeepers" by Cold Steel?

The Gerbers have very delicate points - good for sticking bad for prying. While the CS blades are more robust they're still not made for prying. Daggers are generally made to penetrate - handling big time lateral stress near the tip "exceeds" the design. Maybe the Stiders will do but I'd bet that other blade designs will work better yet. Maybe the Boker mini-smatchet?

Hello RL!

I went to the STRIDER web-site after you mentioned their blades and I saw the pictures. I think I may have found my new favorite knife! I really want one of the BT models. Also, I noticed you're from Toronto. I was wondering if you knew of any stores in Canada that would carry a knife such as STRIDER. Thanks for your help!

Hi Armoth,

Glad I could help!

Unfortunately, there aren't too many "high-end" knife dealers in Canada, let alone ones that carry Strider...ProEdge will have a Strider from time to time but they are VERY expensive. Check out their website at:

You may have better luck at an online store such as triple aught design (www.tadgear.com)
